One Year before InnoTrans 2021
Interview with the director of InnoTrans Kerstin Schulz about the postponement of InnoTrans 2020.
In just over a year's time InnoTrans will now take place from 27 to 30 April 2021. What does that mean for the transport technology sector, which actually wanted to present its innovations this September?
Indeed, the innovation cycles of the industry and the two-year cycle of InnoTrans go hand in hand. Here many companies often present their innovations in the field of transport technology for the first time. In 2018 we had around 150 world premieres. For an alternative date for InnoTrans to be postponed, it is important not to be too far in the future, but to ensure sufficient planning security. On the other hand, however, it is important to have enough time to get to the next scheduled date in September 2022. With the slot at the end of April 2021 we have fulfilled these criteria in the best possible way.
How did the mobility industry, especially the exhibitors, react to the postponement?
InnoTrans 2021 in April offers all our exhibitors the planning security they need to be able to hold InnoTrans in the usual quality. A leading trade fair such as InnoTrans is also a logistical challenge for many exhibitors. Some of the exhibits at the fair are shipped to Berlin several months before InnoTrans. All this must be meticulously planned in advance. This is why the international exhibitors in particular welcome the postponement. Nevertheless, innovations and new ideas in public transport are more important than ever, especially now. We all need a strong industry platform that acts as an international hub and presents the mobility of tomorrow.
So what will happen to the InnoTrans team now? Do you have to re-plan the whole event?
No, we can build very well on the current status. For example, we will take over the hall planning as far as possible. Some aspects of InnoTrans will of course have to be updated due to global developments, such as the topics of the Convention Programme. But we are working well together as a team and are getting everything organised. More importantly our overall goal has not changed. We want to offer our exhibitors, trade visitors and partners the best global platform for mobility. The new date gives us the chance to hold InnoTrans to the usual extent and with the usual internationality. Next April exhibitors and trade visitors from all over the world will hopefully be able to come to Berlin again. We are already looking forward to it very much.
