Every two years all leading industry manufacturers present their latest vehicles, components and systems in the exhibition halls and on the rail tracks at Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The Innovation Report provides an overview of the exhibition highlights.

Aarsleff Rail / TTInspect: fully automatic inspection replaces manual checks
The TTInspect fully automatic inspection system combines advanced sensor technology with modern computing, and thereby eliminates time-consuming visual equipment inspections done by hand. This system satisfies increased efficiency and future rail safety requirements. TTInspect provides inspection systems for a wide range of items, including wheels, brake shoes, vehicle chassis, pantographs and current collectors for a third rail, clearance gauges, overhead lines, points, railway sleepers and rails. According to the exhibitor the range of options is almost unlimited and systems can be individually designed to meet customer specifications. The automatic inspection systems for wheels and brake shoes will be among the products this Danish company, a part of Aarsleff Rail A/S since 2015, will be exhibiting at InnoTrans.
AB SKF: Trade-off between sealing function and friction loss
The SKF Centrifugal Lip Seal for wheelset bearing units was designed to reduce maintenance and save energy in high-speed passenger rail applications. This innovative seal design balances sealing and friction loss requirements. It incorporates a lip that is closed when the vehicle accelerates and brakes at low speeds, effectively avoiding particle contamination of the bearings. Upon acceleration and when the centrifugal force reaches a certain limit, enough to stop particles from entering, the lip opens and friction loss is reduced to almost zero. This allows the bearing unit to function at low temperatures and has the advantage of lengthening maintenance intervals. The significant increase in efficiency and reduced energy consumption also lessens the environmental impact of high-speed trains.
ABB Railway: High efficient and lightweight traction transformer and ultra compact battery charger
At InnoTrans 2016 ABB will be exhibiting two products making their debut on the world stage: Effilight®, a lightweight and efficient traction transformer and BORDLINE® BC, a latest-generation, ultra-compact battery charger. The new technology of the Effilight transformer features a unique patented design which significantly reduces oil volume. As a result, the technology enables unprecedented energy savings for railway operators and weight reductions to train manufacturers. Another ABB product making its world debut at the fair is the BORDLINE® BC battery charger. Silicone carbide semiconductors have made it possible to achieve an extremely space-saving design, a high specific output, as well as maximum reliability and easy maintenance. The new ultra-compact battery charger is compatible with various types of battery installed on rail vehicles.
Advanced Rail Controls: Distributed power control for electric locomotives
The company Advanced Rail Controls Private Limited, based in Bangalore, is presenting what it describes as a pioneering innovation: a distributed power (DP) control system for class WAG9 electric locomotives. This uses a UHF radio link, a method that has been adopted by selected countries for increasing the throughput for heavy f reight. Two prototype trains, each with a locomotive at the front and rear, are already in service carrying iron ore. The rail company plans to equip several such trains with master-slave radio control systems (with up to four slaves) in order to make better use of a dedicated freight corridor. The system operates together with the MICAS-S2 locomotive control system and with the Faiveley‘s E70 brake control system, and also has safety features to deal with radio loss and equipment failures.
AIT Austrian Institute of Technology: Smartphone-based travel mode recognition and evaluation of infrastructure designs using VR technology
The AIT technology for automatically recognising a travel mode via smartphone is capable of distinguishing eight types: walking, cycling, travel by motorcycle, car, bus, tram, underground and train. It collects detailed and reliable information in the background on distances covered while consuming hardly any battery power. The technology can be incorporated easily into various smartphone apps and represents an ideal solution for eTicketing and providing multimodal traffic information and transport statistics. EXPERIENCE is a consultancy that evaluates infrastructure designs using VR technology. Using a virtual 3D model it interactively examines and analyses infrastructures starting at the planning stage. The AIT service helps to identify shortfalls in architectural design and visual information and to improve the usability of those areas where traffic is busiest.
Alstom: Zero-emissions train
Alstom has been working on all-new powertrain systems equipped with fuel cells for some time. The combination of hydrogen and oxygen produces electrical energy. This technology is already being employed in buses and cars. The company’s new train for servicing local regions will produce no emissions and very little noise. What is more its energy storage technology and energy management system will make it more efficient than a conventional diesel-powered locomotive. According to the exhibitor, the company’s existing range of services and long years of experience enable it to offer customers a comprehensive package that includes maintenance and a hydrogen filling station. In recent years Alstom’s technical innovations have resulted in up to 20 per cent lower energy consumption, depending on the type of train.
Alta Rail Technology: Lightweight end-of-train device
The equipment for monitoring train integrity consists of an end-of-train device that is installed like an EOT signal in the last wagon of the train and is connected to the brake system, and a device at the front of the train. Both of them exchange data via a radio link (pressure in the main air line, acceleration sensors etc.), in order to rapidly detect a break in the train and many other details. The latest EOT development from Alta Rail Technology provides the same functions for ensuring train operating safety, and is also lighter, due to the use of plastics. Like the previous version it is a rugged device and is suitable for use under all conditions found in a train operating environment. It informs the driver about train integrity, brake pipe pressure and many other aspects, and can also calculate the length of the train. The EOT uses a communication module that complies with the AAR codes (American Association of Railroads) for end-of-train devices.
Amberg Technologies: high-performance precision measurements
According to the exhibitor, by incorporating IMU technology in the GRP System FX and developing "Amberg IMS 1000/3000" measurement systems, over the last two years, Amberg Technologies has attracted considerable attention and set a new standard. The introduction of the "Amberg IMS 5000" means that the GRP 5000 System, which is used for measuring clearances and existing systems, is now available with the same IMU technology. According to its designers the system opens up a new dimension of precision measurement. The "Amberg IMS 5000" combines a relative and absolute track measurement capability, and using laser technology comprehensively scans trackside objects. Using defined 3D orientation points the system provides 3D imagery without the need for tacheometry or GPS, thereby achieving a measurement rate of up to 4,000 m/h and a reduction in personnel requirements.
Ansaldo STS: 3InSat project completes successful tests
The tech company Ansaldo STS, an affiliate of the Hitachi Group, markets train control and signalling systems as well as integrated transport systems. On 29 June 2016 an ERTMS user group visited the ERSATT test track in Cagliari, Italy, and witnessed one of the first trials of the 3InSat project in Europe. This project, assigned to Ansaldo STS by the European Space Agency and supported by the Italian Space Agency, is a system based on ERTMS signalling standards which makes use of the "Location Determination System" (LDS), designed and implemented by the company itself. It also serves as a communication network based on TETRA, GSM and satellite technology. Following recent successes Ansaldo STS will be exhibiting LDS to experts from around the world at InnoTrans 2016 on its display in hall 4.2.
Armacell: Highly flexible EN 45545-compliant insulating materials
At InnoTrans Armacell is exhibiting its latest range of flexible, closed-cell insulating materials featuring integrated fire protection for the rail vehicle industry. All Armaflex rail products conform to the high requirements of the EN 45545 European Fire Safety Standard and satisfy Hazard Levels HL2 or 3. In accordance with EN 45545 “Armaflex Rail SD-C“ and “Armaflex Rail ZH-C“ can even be employed on trains operating on underground line sections or in tunnels. These innovative materials, which include halogen-free and coated insulation, feature excellent flammability and low smoke density properties. Armaflex rail products protect refrigerant lines, air ducts and system components from energy loss and condensation. These elastomer insulating materials are highly flexible, making them easy to work on and process.
ASCI Systemhaus: Automated performance accounting and data evaluation
SyFAHRweb is a web application from the Berlin company ASCI Systemhaus GmbH for planning timetables and turnaround cycles, duty rosters, scheduling personnel and vehicles, and for performance accounting of public transport bus companies. SyFAHRweb enables automated accounting for the services performed and the statistical analysis of the data on the basis of the actual performance of the drivers and the vehicles. The consistent maintenance of data means that changes to the timetabling or vehicle deployment planning are always identified in the relevant sections of the program and, if necessary, can be automatically adjusted to meet the new conditions. The software operates as an internet/intranet application, using open source components, and is not tied to any particular platform. An app for the mobile client assists the driver by allocating services and timetables as well as a communication platform.
ASE: Camera-based identification system
The focus on safety in railway operations has led ASE AG to develop its camera-based ID system "NumberCheck". It enables current locomotive and rolling stock numbers to be registered, checked and monitored (UIC, LüP, BIC/ ILU code, vehicle, hazardous freight number etc.) and at the same time it ensures parallel documentation of status and damage. "TrAbSy", an automatic rail freight billing system, is a special application of this system for use in port areas. It registers rolling stock as it enters and leaves, thus keeping a record of movements and idling times. The system can be used to compare actual data and reported EVU data, to produce a processing record and to automatically bill infrastructure users (EVUs). By means of various interfaces (e.g. EDIFACT and XML) NumberCheck can also be integrated into higher logistics software systems.
ASELSAN Elektronik Sanayi ve Ticaret: Regenerative braking and energy recovery even at low engine speeds
Designed for underground trains and LRVs, the "TRS-600" represents a new generation of power converters capable of highly efficient engine traction control. This traction system propels the train by controlling and adjusting the current flow from overhead lines via converters, while also taking the comfort and safety of passengers during the braking of a fast-moving train into account. The TRS-600 was designed as the central component of a traction system incorporating a new generation of IGBT technology and the latest control programmes. According to the exhibitor, on train runs it achieves the highest level of safety, robustness and efficiency. The TRS-600 can control a single engine or two parallel-running engines. This highly sensitive control unit enables regenerative braking and energy recovery even at low engine speeds.
ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik: OneSystem range of locks for multiple applications
Different types of doors are installed featuring just as many functions in hotels, hospitals, shopping centres, office buildings, industrial buildings and train stations. ASSA ABLOY satisfies all these needs with its new and innovative OneSystem range of locks. All the components form part of a modular system, making them easily replaceable afterwards. Depending on individual specifications, for example as an escape door, fire door, burglar-proof door or access-controlled door, it is possible to substitute a mechanical lock with an electro-mechanical system or vice-versa. The locks and their components are compatible with each other and can be incorporated into practically any door and entry system. This comprehensive range of locks can be installed on any type of door, be it a standard or multi-functional version. Visitors to InnoTrans can find out about OneSystem from ASSA ABLOY in hall 1.1.
ATKINS: Future signalling systems
Future signalling systems encompasses a combination of product, design and service, which ensures long term value for money by providing a future-proofed, IP-enabled signalling platform that enables a cost-effective transition to ETCS signalling. As an independent systems integrator, Atkins has selected a range of technologies from across the world to ensure that its level crossings and resignallings deliver the highest standards of safety, enhanced reliability and greater cost-effectiveness. These technologies include Alstom’s ElectroLogIXS interlocking and level crossing barrier arms from Newgate. A significant reduction in lineside infrastructure and centralised control means minimal installation and maintenance, resulting in improved journey experience with less ‘down time’ and disruption. ATRON electronic: Data processing in seconds when tickets are sold
ATRON has expanded its range of solutions to meet the constantly increasing demands on fare management with many new online applications. When purchasing tickets passengers can use the new app on Android and iOS devices, with a direct link to the ticket portal “WebTick”. The new “ATRON Sales-App” enables tickets to be sold by staff on board, using a smart phone. Paper tickets can be issued by means of a Bluetooth connection to a mobile printer. Teams of inspectors can inspect electronic tickets using the newly developed “ATRON Smart Ticket Inspection App” immediately following purchase. The advantage of ATRON is that all the information and data converges in seconds in the ATRIES background system, making it possible to carry out inspections immediately after the tickets have been sold. The modular structure means that all the components of the system can be adapted to meet future requirements.
AUCOTEC: Need-based configuration
Aucotec AG will be introducing its new configuration concept for the rail industry for the first time at InnoTrans 2016. Through efficient configuration based on a modular system the Advanced Typical Manager (ATM) from the "Engineering Base" (EB) software platform speeds up the development of various rail projects from the individual to the highly complex. The system is based on centrally stored, function-oriented templates (typicals) and an easy-to-use variant and option management system. It is equally suitable for use with the individual equipment of regional rail operators or with complex locomotives designed to operate in a number of countries with different train control systems and power supplies ("corridor locomotives"): Quality-tested templates based on freely extendable basic modules make it possible to produce customised rail vehicles to meet every need, and within a very short time.
Autolift: Efficient method for separating bogies and wagons
Autolift GmbH was commissioned by an Australian mining company to produce a fully automatic bogie changing system, resulting in the design of its unique double-spindle jacking system which makes it possible to fully automatically raise a wagon and bogies, either together or separately. At InnoTrans 2016 this Austrian company will be revealing details of its custom-made product to a worldwide expert audience for the first time. The system comprises four jacks with one spindle each for lifting the bogie and one for lifting the wagon. Thus the system represents a highly efficient method for separating and installing bogies. This space-saving jacking system can be purchased at a fraction of underfloor lifting systems. Furthermore, according to this exhibitor at InnoTrans there is no overfloor system that is easier and faster to operate.
AVIrail Systems: Replacement rear view mirror and assistance for drivers at stops
The basic version of the "RailEye" real time rear view mirror system from AVIrail Systems GmbH consists of a monitor, two external cameras and a smart video link. It can be used to replace the traditional rear view mirror and also to assist drivers at stops. The images are displayed in real time with barely any delay, which means that the RailEye rear view mirror system complies with the standards for safety-critical applications. The video link allows intelligent vehicle signal processing, such as door release, driving direction and speed. This enables the user to change the type of display on the monitor as required, for example as a full screen or multi-channel, such as split or quad screen. RailEye complies with the standard EN 50155 (railway standard) and is categorised as SIL-1 in accordance with the standards EN 50126 and EN 50129.
AWP-Präzisionsteile: Lightweight, robust system for adjusting pressurised gas suspension units
AWP-Präzisionsteile GmbH is using InnoTrans 2016 for the international debut of its "Easy Release Modular System", known by the acronym ERMS®. This is an electromechanical / electronic system for releasing pressurised gas suspension units using a centrally controlled actuating force of only 2 to 5 N. For example, for enhanced aircraft safety, all backrest adjustments can be switched off centrally during take-off and landing. Conversely, all the backrests in a train compartment can be reclined at the press of a button. Among the many advantages of ERMS® are its low weight, the minimal force required on the activating button, robust construction and excellent resistance to dirt and contamination. The use of tiny piezo switches with minimal installation depth allows for narrower armrests, thereby helping to achieve further weight reductions.
AXIOMTEK Deutschland: Fan-less box PC for numerous applications
AXIOMTEK, a well-known developer of embedded systems and industrial PCs, has added a new box PC, the “tBOX810-838-FL”, to its range. This unit, which dispenses with a fan, is certified in conformity with ISO7637, EN50155, EN50121 and IEC60945. This makes it ideal for numerous applications in the transport sector, for example on the railways and in road vehicles, and on ships. The tBOX810-838-FL is extremely compact, weighing less than 800 g and measuring only 164 x 108 x 44 mm. The embedded system is available with a choice of either a 1.91 GHz E3845 Intel® Atom™ quad core processor or a 1.75 GHz E3827 Intel® Atom™ dual core processor. The tBOX810-838-FL can also be operated in an extended temperature range of -40 to +70 degrees Celsius and in a voltage range of 9 to 36 VDC.
Axis Communications: Small and compact cameras for buses and trams
The AXIS F44 being displayed by Axis Communications at InnoTrans provides a simple and economical solution for monitoring up to four adjacent areas using just a single main unit. This can be installed in a protected area at a distance of up to 12 m from the sensor units, which can be located both internally or externally in confined spaces. This approach is ideal for use in buses and trams and also provides a number of intelligent functions such as counting the number of passengers. These cameras therefore not only offer greater security but also provide for process optimisation in many different areas. The AXIS P39-R range of cameras is ideal for use in passenger transport, providing outstanding images in HDTV quality, excellent processing and Edge Storage.
Azimut eMotion: Individual on-board entertainment system
As this exhibitor explains, "Azimut Operative Device" is currently the only own-device platform capable of reproducing live satellite television and radio on passengers’ own devices. Azimut eMotion is using InnoTrans 2016 to introduce its individual on-board entertainment system. This gives passengers wireless access to all kinds of multimedia content via their own smartphones, tablets or notebooks, or on screens installed on-board the vehicle. This platform has been designed for use in high-demand environments and can support more than 100 users simultaneously. It can store over 1,000 hours of content, and can manage such audiovisual content as movies, series and documentaries. It also supports other entertainment content such as WLAN for passengers, and even music, videos, games, newspapers, audiobooks, travel guides and other services such as surveys, advertising, access payments and corporate content.
B. Hepworth: New design rail filler spout
The new Filler Spout from Hepworth Rail is made from 316 stainless steel and has been precision designed and engineered to prevent the damage to standard caps that frequently occurs during filling procedures. Broken cap chains, damaged hinges and missing caps are some of the issues that have long-term cost implications and can now be prevented. The cap is simple to use, with the push-pull hinge handle making easily damaged cap chains and screw caps a thing of the past. The spout can be used for diesel, toilets, waste, washing fluids and water applications. It is highly durable, and also unlocks and opens smoothly. The overall streamlined satin finish gives a classy appearance to the vehicle. It accepts 38, 50 or 63 mm hoses.
Bando Chemical Industries: Tension meter for cargo lashing belts
With the diversification of transport in recent years, in areas such as trucking, rail transport and sea containers, there has been an increase in the damage caused by the shifting of cargo or impacts occurring in transit. As this exhibitor points out, normally there is insufficient control over the force with which the belts are tightened. To deal with this situation the company has been collaborating with another Japanese company, Sankyu, to develop this patented tension meter for cargo lashing belts. It provides a digital measurement of the tensioning force, thereby preventing the cargo from shifting, and thus resulting in improved transport reliability. Among the outstanding features of this device are its compactness and lightness. It measures 160 x 80 x 80 mm and weighs just 1.5 kg, with a measuring range of 490 to 19,600 N. Other products being displayed by this exhibitor at InnoTrans 2016 include the highly flame resistant rubber flooring BANDO BANLIGHT FR.
BBM Officine Meccaniche: Spring testing machine features all-new software
For over 50 years Officine Meccaniche BBM has been manufacturing parts for the steel, energy and shipbuilding industry. Backed by its expertise in heavy industrial engineering, since 1987 this Italian company has also been supplying systems and parts for the rail industry. They include presses for installing, removing and inspecting wheelsets. For example, in January 2016 a fully automatic press for cold mounting of wheelsets was installed in the Trenitalia depot in Voghera. The Officine Meccaniche portfolio also includes testing facilities for installing, removing and inspecting bogies. Other new products on the company’s booth at InnoTrans 2016 will include an upgraded spring testing machine equipped with all-new software for inspecting and adjusting spring mountings, one of which has already been supplied by Officine Meccaniche to the French rail operator SNCF.
beam: Giving germs no chance in buses and trains
It is a special kind of vehicle cleaning: the display at InnoTrans 2016 in Berlin by beam GmbH from Altenstadt features its Blue-Evolution vapour extraction system, which has been certified by HACCP. This exhibitor’s innovative, multi-purpose units not only reduce water consumption by up to 93 per cent but also cut the time previously needed for cleaning buses and railway rolling stock by 60 per cent. Major practical advantages: in basic mode Blue Evolution operates with dry water vapour, thereby eliminating the need for the long drying times that would otherwise occur commercial vehicles are cleaned using spray extraction or shampooing. The 8 m water vapour extraction hose, an optional extra, provides for especially ergonomical cleaning, because the basic unit can be kept outside, and the cleaning personnel can still reach into crevices.
Beijing Yan Hong Da Railway Equipment: Precision milling and assembly
Established in Beijing in 2001, this company will be represented with two products making their world debut at InnoTrans. The new YHD-G10 rail milling machine is capable of bringing badly worn rails quickly back into shape. The low-vibration, petrol engine operated machine is ergonomically designed. Compared to conventional methods of reworking rail surfaces and edges this system is more efficient and can mill up to 180 metres of rail per hour. Another innovation is the YHD-T1C, a lithium battery-powered wrench for fitting sleeper bolts with electronic monitoring, which can install or remove up to 2,000 bolts on a single charge. Torque settings are monitored electronically and are shown on a display. Deviations in the amount of torque applied are no more than five per cent. The wrench is available with a single or dual-head option.
Bel Power Solutions: Universal DC/DC converter for railway applications
Bel Power Solutions is launching a brand new range of DC/DC converters for universal use on rail vehicles: the MELCHER RCM series. Four different basic models are available with power stages of 150, 300, 500 and 1,000 W. All the products in the RCM range have galvanic separation, are EMC-protected in compliance with EN 50121-3-2 and conform to EN 45545 fire protection specifications. The 500 and 1,000 W devices have been designed for use with 110 V on-board supplies, and the two smaller models for 150 and 300 W have wide range inputs for 24/36 V or 72/110 V DC, and in all cases their tolerances conform to those specified by EN 50155. The output voltage is either 24 or 12 V. The devices are attached to the chassis or bulkhead using just four screws, and spring-type terminals are used for the power supply. They can operate in an ambient temperature range of -40 to +71 degrees C (EN 50155 Class Tx) without derating.
Betonwerk Rieder: Low level sound barrier wall for use in sensitive areas
The Rieder 360° is a low level sound barrier wall that has been specially designed for use in sensitive places such as populated areas and cultivated landscapes. The main advantage compared with conventional noise protection barriers is that it provides a clear all-round view of landscapes, cities and their surroundings, both for the residents and for train passengers. Moreover the Rieder 360° can be erected closer to the source of the noise than conventional barriers, making it more effective at the very place where most of the railway noise originates, i.e. directly at the rails. Despite being lower it provides excellent noise protection. Where there are multiple railway tracks this exhibitor can supply middle barriers that can be optionally augmented by add-on elements. Because Rieder 360° is erected close to the rail tracks it is ideal for situations in which existing tracks are being renovated and where space is limited.
Bio-Circle Surface Technology: Reduced VOC content and outstanding cleaning performance
The PROLAQ product range of Bio-Circle Surface Technology can be used to clean all types of equipment for applying and processing paint. PROLAQ L cleaning agents can be employed with machines or manually and feature a reduced VOC content as well as outstanding cleaning performance. They remove both water-based and solvent-based paints and lacquers from spray guns, hoses, rollers and brushes. The "PROLAQ Compact" and "PROLAQ Auto" cleaning systems, which are perfectly adapted to these cleaning agents, contain many features which make work easier and increase efficiency. A three-stage preparation process employing a large-particle filter, sediment basin and fine-particle filter increases usability of recyclable "PROLAQ L 100" and "PROLAQ L 500" cleaning agents. According to the exhibitor, practical tests have shown that with this system these cleaning agents can be reused up five to ten times.
BIW Isolierstoffe: Slippery, non-stick and clean
Many silicon components tend to be sticky and to attract dust on account of their surface properties. This disadvantage has severely limited their applications and/or use. A new process from BIW, known as Low Friction Surface (LFS) treatment, reduces the dynamic friction, ensuring that the sticky and adhesive surfaces of the component are cleaner and offer less friction. This tribological effect is achieved by deliberate modification of the silicon surface, but without affecting the mechanical and physical properties of the silicon in any way. The surface modification is mostly retained throughout the lifetime of the silicon product. Lasting improvements to the surface feel of the silicon are also achieved. The end result is to eliminate the “slip-stick effect”. No unwanted dirt particles can attach themselves or adhere to the surface. This surface property is retained with 100 per cent effectiveness even after several hundred autoclave cycles.
Bombardier Transportation: Modular platforms for railcars and metro systems
The new "TALENT 3" represents the next generation of Bombardier’s successful TALENT vehicle range. During the development of this modular vehicle platform great emphasis was placed on flexibility, low energy consumption and easy maintenance. This newly designed railcar is the perfect solution for Europe. It is equipped with ETCS and is compatible with European electric rail systems regardless of borders. TALENT 3 complies with TSI and EN standards and as such is approved for Europe-wide operations "BOMBARDIER MOVIA Maxx", the exhibitor’s new metro platform, was specifically designed for rapidly expanding cities all over the world. Based on a modular and flexible platform system, MOVIA Maxx can be individually adapted to operators’ requests and demands. The metro was specifically designed to offer optimum value-for-money in terms of passenger capacity, energy consumption, reliability and availability.
Bosch / Robert Bosch: Greater efficiency through optimised products
At InnoTrans Bosch will be exhibiting various innovations for the rail industry. Their subsidiary Bosch Engineering presents a collision warning system for trams. The radar and video sensor of the system detects cars and trams travelling ahead and warns the driver in case of a potential collision. With the help of connected sensors their condition monitoring system for rail vehicles collects real time goods wagon data and processes them online. Bosch Software Innovations products give commuters an easy choice of transport options for the route they wish to travel on. Real time data lets users make an informed decision based on cost, availability and realistic travel time. According to the exhibitor, through a combination of upgraded processors, data buses and communication protocols, tools from ETAS GmbH such as the FETK control unit interface and the control unit and bus interface modules of the new ES800 hardware have significantly improved efficiency.
CAF Signalling: Automatic train operation in Mexico
The Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system in combination with the Level 2 European Train Control System (ETCS) is due to be rolled out soon on the Mexican rail network. CAF Signalling will be unveiling this project, which is currently running on the new local transit system connecting Mexico City and Toluca, at InnoTrans. The new dual-track line is 58 km long and features 25 kV A/C electrification. There will be five stations along the line, and trains will travel the entire distance in 39 minutes. Once operations begin in 2018 this important local line is predicted to carry 270,000 passengers per day. CAF manages the consortium’s production of trains, on-board ETCS systems, the entire ATO system and the control centre. The company will also be supplying 30 trainsets capable of 160 kph and featuring a regenerative braking system.
CAF Turnkey & Engineering is expanding its international operations
At InnoTrans CAF Turnkey & Engineering will be showcasing its wide-ranging engineering expertise as a provider of turnkey transport systems and corresponding new services. The company, which belongs to the CAF Group, provides engineering services, technical advice and comprehensive project management for passenger and goods transportation systems, from the initial planning stage to final rollout, as well as for infrastructure and vehicle operation and maintenance. It employs a multi-disciplinary and highly committed R&D team of around 200 specialists. According to the exhibitor, they place great emphasis on supporting sustainable development and the use of renewable energies. Following projects in Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Romania, Chile, Mexico and Taiwan, the company plans to expand its international operations and will have corresponding information at the fair.
Cellofoam: Water-repellant sound and heat insulation in compliance with EN 45545-2
This exhibitor’s Cello® HO range consists of widely differing products which all have one thing in common: their oil- and water-repellant properties. Moreover, in compliance with EN 45545-2, Cellofoam products achieve the result HL-3 for the requirement set R1. CHAUVIN ARNOUX: Safe and highly accurate measurements
The "C.A 6292" digital micro-ohmmeter from Chauvin Arnoux® with a tripping current of up to 200 A features a housing suitable for use on construction sites and IP54 type protection. It can give readings in accordance with the BSG process, whereby the earthing of the test object on both side avoids any of the risks associated with inductive phenomena. As a result the measurement process presents no risks to personnel or material. The connecting terminals are coloured to make them easily recognisable, enabling rapid and error-free connection of the instrument leads. Due to the built-in cooling system it is also possible to conduct longer measurements with higher currents. The results can be seen immediately in the illuminated, easy-to-read LCD display. The C.A 6292 can be manually adjusted using the rotary knob on the device, or by using a PC via the USB connection. The tripping current can be adjusted between 20 and 200 A. Automated readings with 50, 100, 150 and 200 A are also possible.
ClearSy System Engineering: Reduced cabling and lower costs
ClearSy develops and markets electronic and software safety solutions for the rail industry. The company is now introducing a new hardware platform called “Saturn” for its “FERSIL” range of railway products. It facilitates the management of remote input/ output systems (SIL0, SIL2 and SIL 4) for the railways. Saturn significantly reduces the amount of cabling that is normally required, as well as lowering costs, and is suitable both for use with TCMS (Train Control Monitoring Systems) as well as in platform and trackside applications. The Saturn platform supports mixed heterogeneous configurations of SIL0, SIL2, and SIL4 modules on the same unique copper cable or fibre optic-based communication network, and is fully compliant with the EN 50159-2 standard . ClearSy has developed a range of railway relays including safety-critical relays and SIL4 vital signalling relays, for on-board and trackside applications.
CN-Consult: On-board passenger information in real time
CN-Consult is presenting four new products as a world premiere at InnoTrans 2016. “DiLoc®|OnBoard” is a system that provides rail, bus and ship passengers with real time information about the operating status, punctuality and connections. This comprehensive system solution, which is a combination of hardware and software, is a logical refinement to the existing DiLoc product family. Corresponding CN-Consult developed the “InnoScreen®” range of innovative display technology with super-flat TFT-screens. Hence as a world premiere CN-Consult presents a full-color LED-overhead-display with only 2,5 mm dot pitch, which is suitable for outdoor implementation and can be used even in direct sunlight. The “DiLoc®|Sync” software for individual electronic provision of documents for train drivers is currently being used throughout Europe by over 7,500 drivers. The collaboration module now also enables partner companies to distribute documents to external train drivers, as well as archiving all documents and their digital read confirmation.
ContiTech: Smart Solutions beyond rubber
At InnoTrans 2016 "Smart Solutions beyond rubber" is the slogan of ContiTech on its display in hall 9. Among the products the Hannover-based company will be exhibiting to an international audience of experts are air suspension bellows for rail vehicles which conform to the European EN 45545 standard and satisfy stringent "Hazard Level 3" (HL3) specifications. According to the exhibitor, this innovative product has already successfully completed life cycle tests. Measurements have also been undertaken for the spring rate characteristics. Air bellows are fundamental to the design of air suspension systems on rail vehicles. The material can also be used for bellows on pantographs. Other new products being exhibited include lightweight, non-slip materials for bistro areas.
Custom: Automating processes and specific functions
At InnoTrans the CUSTOM Group SpA will be exhibiting its "Custom Power Tool" (CPT), the company’s innovative and intelligent design automation software, for the first time. This software can tailor every type of product to customers’ technology specifications, including for transportation, and automates processes and specific functions. The tool simplifies, individualises and improves complex work processes and can communicate with any operating system, i.e. Windows, Linux, Android or iOS. The Custom Power Tool basically consists of two complementary elements which create a synergy between design and printing. By using a customer-defined graphics tool for making logos, barcodes, images and lines and another tool for coding it is possible to write individual programs, regardless of the operating system being used.

A fire safety experts’ assessment from TÜV Süd Rail is now available for the latest generation of the dual purpose Unimog, which also covers the use of this vehicle in tunnels, and even in parallel with passenger traffic. A fire detection system and fire extinguishing equipment are available in order to satisfy fire safety requirements in these areas. A Euro V version of the latest generation of these vehicles is newly available for non-European markets such as China or Russia. According to the exhibitor its fuel cell, a new product of the DB Bahnbau Group range, represents a milestone achievement. Combining hydrogen and oxygen produces zero-emissions electrical energy. The fuel cell’s modular design means it can be put to many uses, including as a supply backup for signal boxes, for powering tunnel and video monitoring systems and for temporarily monitoring construction sites. DB Engineering & Consulting employs forward-looking technology to develop and implement rail projects. The company employs multicopters to survey properties from above and collects images and ground coordinates for planning jobs and reports. In order to obtain otherwise invisible information the experts use methods that provide hard facts. They include radar technology and 3-D laser scanning which collects vast amounts of data from various angles. This is subsequently processed using a data model of the property. In order to clearly and comprehensively develop complex projects the exhibitor employs modern methods such as Building Information Modelling (BIM). DB Netz: Diagnosis and analysis platform and web-based train route finder
DIANA is the name of the DB Netz diagnosis and analysis platform capable of detecting the condition of technical systems. The "strecken.info" of DB Netz is a user-friendly tool that shows network maintenance information from a 12-week advance overview for rail transport companies. The company’s web-based route finder ("Trassenplaner") rapidly assembles route information for a previously entered train configuration. Important parameters such as anticipated time and cost of transportation are also displayed. Using the train route finder it is no longer necessary to manually conduct technical inspections before ordering train routes. The new DB Netz Series 705.1 tunnel inspection vehicle is the fifth out of 45 vehicles which are being procured from Plasser & Theurer. These are based on a "multifunctional maintenance vehicle for rail infrastructure" (MISS) platform.

DB Station&Service: BIM method and the Green Station
The display by DB Station&Service AG at InnoTrans demonstrates how the BIM method is being used for the digital planning, construction and modernisation of stations. BIM stands for "Building Information Modelling". All the various trades and all the other participants in a project, such as architects, planners, consultants, site supervisors and construction firms, are involved in a BIM model. The calculation of costs and quantities is adjusted automatically. BIM enables planning errors to be identified quicker and it also minimises any possible risks during the execution of the construction project. The first station to be planned and constructed using BIM is the Werbig interchange station in Brandenburg. The presentation also features Germany’s second "Green Station", which is due to open at the end of 2016 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Operation of the station building is CO2-neutral due to the use of a geothermal system, photovoltaics, rooftop greening, rainwater management and LED lighting. The first Green Station was opened in June 2014 in Horrem, NRW.
DB Systel: Precise train positioning, even when stationary
Many trains are equipped with GPS systems to enable positioning, although in general these systems are not very precise. Sometimes no contact can be made with a satellite so that other precise positioning means are required. Now DB Systel has designed "RailPos", a custom product for rail transport. Additional vehicle sensors and high-performance, purpose-designed software enable precise train positioning even when stationary. RailPos can also help to locate defects on the train line. Service hours and other vehicle data can be processed in real time and used to trigger alerts, analyse malfunctions and to schedule workshop maintenance. Other potential applications include providing connection data for travellers or information about a passenger’s location in stations and trains.
DB Training, Learning & Consulting: Campus 4.0 – Interconnecting people, innovation and technology
’A new way of learning and working’ is the slogan of Campus 4.0, in which digitisation and technology are applied to people and ideas, providing interconnections between innovative subjects and people. DLR Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt: Double decker train for Britain’s rail networks
At InnoTrans the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and Andreas Vogler Studio will be exhibiting a 1:1 scale demonstrator of their innovative "AeroLiner 3000" project, which is sponsored by the RSSB. The design of the AeroLiner 3000 high-speed double decker train was inspired by business jets and conforms to HS2 "Classic Compatible Train" specifications for speeds of up to 400 kph. Due to its low height and width this double decker can operate on many parts of the existing UK rail network where clearances are minimal (PG1). This concept will increase passenger volume at a fraction of the cost of expanding the rail network. The AeroLiner 3000 creates less noise and consumes less energy than trains currently in use. The 9 m long demonstrator is aimed at highlighting the feasibility, ergonomics and aesthetic appeal of a double decker train that is compatible with the UK rail network.

At InnoTrans Dr. D. Wehrhahn Meßsysteme is exhibiting two products that are making their world debut. The mobile rail trolley measures the vertical and horizontal position of the contact wire on short rail sections. This equipment can be brought to the operating site in two suitcases in an estate car and be set up in just 15 minutes. Together with the “OVHWizard” and a notebook computer it is then ready for use. While overhead wire measurements are being made they can be viewed and evaluated on the notebook. In collaboration with Leonhard Weiss the exhibitor has designed “OVH-WireSafety“, a non-contact height monitoring device. This makes a non-contact measurement of the contact wire height. Depending on the tools being used it can calculate the maximum permissible lifting angle under the overhead wire and transmit this information to the lifting arm control unit. This control unit can subsequently govern the lifting angle in order to permanently maintain a safe distance.

GRABAND was established 30 years ago and will be represented at InnoTrans for the first time. The company, which is exhibiting in the CityCube, will take this opportunity to provide information on the recent sales partnership sealed with Systecon AB. Together with its new Swedish partner GRABAND offers services for life cycle management, marketing the Opus Suite, and support for implementing these programmes in German-speaking (DACH) civilian markets. This newcomer will also be showcasing the other services in its portfolio. Originally a traditional engineering practice, GRABAND now specialises in the functional security of transport and automation systems, from the planning stage through to final inspection, and covering the entire life cycle of a project and product.

An alternative to the standard paper timetable in rural areas has been developed by the company dresden elektronik verkehrstechnik gmbh. The "Green Station" has been created on the basis of the "Urban Station", the latter having been in use in cities for two years and is already integrated in the existing infrastructure. This version of the E-Paper display system is powered either by solar energy or a battery. It is cheap to install because there is no wiring and the device can be attached to a mast or incorporated in existing columns. Data is received via DAB+ or radiotelephony. The timetable can also be amended from a control centre. Additional information such as a plan of the surrounding area can be shown on the E-Paper display. This turnkey solution is also environmentally friendly.
Dunkermotoren: Linear drive solutions based on rotative motors
Dunkermotoren has expanded its portfolio of linear systems products with a range of linear drives based on rotative motors. This is the result of collaboration within the AMETEK group with the spindle manufacturer HaydonKerk. The maintenance-free LSM and LSG series are characterized by the outstanding efficiency of the overall system. With the inclusion of the CASM electrical cylinder in its portfolio this exhibitor can now offer additional drive solutions up to a force of 5 kN and at high speeds. Prefabricated assembly kits allow for flexible adaptation, making it possible to replace pneumatic cylinders at minimal expense. The various linear systems based on rotative drives allow an output range of 20 to 1,100 W, at speeds of up to 1 m/s and with loads of up to 30 kN. The travel length can vary from a few millimetres to several metres.

At InnoTrans 2016 Durmazlar Makina from Turkey will be presenting its new tram concept to international trade visitors on its booth in hall 4.2. This exhibitor’s concept also participated in the contract bidding for transport in the cities of Kocaeli and Samsun. Manufacturing of bogies and chassis, surface treatment and assembly, as well as software production and vehicle testing in accordance with international standards all take place in-house. The vehicles feature the latest technology, outstanding passenger comfort and safety and are internationally approved. The low-floor trams measure 33 metres in length, have 50 seats and can carry up to 290 passengers. Weighing 41.5 tons, their maximum speed is 70 kph.
Dätwyler Sealing Technologies: Automated damage detection
The automated detection of damage during the passage of a train over flush track forms the subject of the new project entitled “Material-integrated diagnostic function through the use of piezo fibres in rail foot profiles”. The Rail Comfort System uses integrated piezo fibres capable of determining the pressure, acceleration, tension and force to record and evaluate the wide range of characteristic responses as a vehicle passes over a section of track. These piezo fibres detect signals produced by the weight of the passing train (low frequency component), as well as the structure-borne sound induced by the wheel-rail interface (high frequency component). In this way the wide-ranging measurements of the recorded energy spectrum enable characteristic frequencies to be obtained, thereby allowing the defect to be identified.
EAO: Double-sided door opening button for mounting on glass
Intuitive and reliable control elements are vital for ensuring maximum security in public transport. EAO is now ready to market its successful 57 series with the new door-opening button for mounting on glass. Whether installed on one or both sides of the glass, the 57 series can provide the right button for any application, and with a uniform "look and feel". The flexible configuration of the two buttons is another outstanding feature of the double-sided, glass-mounted door opener. This enables the functions of the inside and outside button to be controlled either in parallel or separately. Users will appreciate the large actuation surface with a diameter of 74 mm and the two feedback rings, which can be individually illuminated and comply comprehensively with EN 14752. At InnoTrans ebm-papst will be exhibiting innovative fans, motors and drives. The big highlight is its latest generation of radial fans which, as an example, are installed on the new ICE 4. They conform to EMV in accordance with EN 50121-3-2 and are shock and vibration-resistant in accordance with IEC 61373. Furthermore, TÜV SÜD has confirmed that the design, materials and construction fully satisfy DIN EN 45545 and that they reach the highest HL3 standard. Due to the use of special plastic materials ebm-papst rail vehicle fans easily satisfy fire safety regulations. The new radial fans will be available in sizes 250 to 355 as of autumn 2016. The company will also be exhibiting a wide range of powertrains and transmissions for rail vehicles.
Electricfor: Heating elements made of Incoloy 825
This Spanish specialist manufacturer of heating elements is exhibiting at InnoTrans 2016 with a product making its world debut, along with a number of other innovative items. For the first time the company is displaying gas water heaters for use in train toilets, with heating elements made from Incoloy 825, a special alloy. They incorporate a temperature regulating system and limit control. External insulation is provided for maximum heating effectiveness. Immersion heater elements from Electricfor are designed to heat when in direct contact with the fluid: water, oil, viscous materials, acidic and basic solutions. The maximum energy efficiency is achieved by generating the heat within the fluid. Among the other Electricfor exhibits at InnoTrans are a wide range of innovative heating elements for other applications, including air conditioning, convection and infra-red radiation.
Electrosistemas Bach: Electronic communication between individual rail sections
This new generation of axle counters from the Spanish company Electrosistemas Bach (Electrans) is among the products making their first appearance on the world stage at InnoTrans. The axle counters meet the highest safety integrity level (SIL-4) and comply with the new EN50617-2:2013 directive of the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). The axle counters enable electronic communication between individual track sections and can interact with the line’s power supply. Advantages of the new system include redundant communication for high-availability applications and a new signal processing system that enables individual wheel and wheelset detection (GDS). The axle counters feature predictive maintenance of field devices and automatic adjustment for installing and commissioning. Since 1995 the Spanish company has manufactured around 3,500 digital axle counter units.
Elma Electronic: Single-platform RAID and passenger information system
At InnoTrans Elma Electronic, a systems manufacturer based in Pforzheim, is exhibiting its “CompactPCI Serial” rail industry product. The concept employs two rows of five slots which can be individually assigned. On the company’s demonstrator one half of the system consists of a RAID and the other of a passenger information system. This system conforms to the EN50155 Railway Standard and according to the exhibitor can be easily adapted to customer specifications. The practical advantage of this new product is that on modern rail vehicles computers can undertake more than one task. Reliability and resilience are naturally indispensable, and according to the manufacturer these are typical characteristics of the Elma system. Furthermore, Elma is also presenting a vibration-proof router with Cisco technology. An optimum networking capability, a typically stylish Elma design and perfectly harmonised components are common to both these systems.
ELPA: Precise lubrication capability
At its InnoTrans booth ELPA, a company from Slovenia, will have information on a new wheel flange lubrication systems featuring remote data control. This innovative product known as DRYproANNSYS "spray system-ss" can apply a special lubricant to a designated area at a precise time, and in adjustable quantities. Economically, the advantage is reduced wheel flange wear. Other advantages include a reduction in the squealing noise caused by wheel/rail contact, especially in bends. The system is designed to reduce material wear and energy consumption and functions at ambient temperatures between -60 and +80 degrees Celsius. It electronically registers lateral acceleration so that the programme can provide lubricant doses depending on speed and wheel load in bends.
ELTEC Elektronik: Wi-Fi Access Points for mobile applications
The CyBox AP2 for wireless access to railway rolling stock and buses permits the simultaneous operation of two WLAN radios with data rates of 2 x 900 Mbit/s. The latest generation of QorlQ is used in the CyBox AP2, with two separate gigabit ethernet MACs, each of which is connected to robust M12 sockets, thereby permitting highly flexible uplink configurations. The new Access Point supports the maximum data rates for current and future versions of the IEEE802.11ac standard. An optional version is also available with a 2.5 gigabit ethernet interface as well as a version with a 10 gigabit optical interface. Whereas the first of these is suitable for retrofit programmes with existing wiring (CAT 6 or better), the optical version is primarily intended for use with new infrastructure.
ENAG: Parallel discharging of capacitor arrays
Staff safety has the utmost priority in railway maintenance depots. That is why, in collaboration with France’s state-run rail network SNCF, ENAG has designed a discharger for capacitor arrays. This is a lightweight, portable device which is easy to use. It can simultaneously discharge capacitors built in arrays on cars and locomotives before personnel begin their work. The device is suitable for arrays with a capacity of 72 mF and can be supplied with either 300 mm or 1,000 mm long discharge probes. The probes measure existing voltage, indicate whether it is excessive, discharge electricity and display a green light when there is no longer any danger, so that personnel can carry out their work in complete safety. ENAG is an approved supplier of products to the French rail networks SNCF and RATP as well as to rail operators in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the UK and the Middle East.
era-contact: Simple upgrade with Ethernet or Fast Ethernet
With the new Ethernet Upgrade Solution existing rail vehicle fleets can be easily refurbished with Ethernet or Fast Ethernet. The era transceiver® enables data to be transferred at high speed by means of an optical signal and with a galvanically isolated connection. This system is particularly suited for tilted electrical couplers where female/male contacts cannot be used. Two extension housings with the era-transceiver® are mounted on the electrical coupler, one on each side, without the need to substitute the existing coupler with a costly replacement. Upgrading is simple and uncomplicated, because no additional drive or rewiring of the e-coupler are required. Existing fleets can be easily refurbished without necessitating the use of a new e-coupler. Coupling compatibility is available at all times with the compact and cost-effective solution from era-contact.

According to the exhibitor, the latest solutions for eco-oriented transport systems being exhibited at InnoTrans 2016 can connect everything that is transported by road and rail, including drivers and passengers. These technology platforms bring intelligence and real time flexibility to all types of vehicles and transport hubs.
ESI ITI: Simulating rail vehicles
Be it simulating operations, analysing a pneumatic braking system, optimising a traction control system or, the very latest innovation, modelling a rail/wheel contact surface – ESI ITI provides engineering support for the entire life cycle of a rail vehicle, from proper planning through to virtual trials and refitting. Furthermore, at InnoTrans 2016 ESI ITI will be showing how users can gain a competitive advantage by simulating air-conditioning systems in rail vehicles. Using the company’s "SimulationX" simulation software users can create virtual rail vehicles based on a comprehensive multi-physical system, ensuring they acquire type approval from the very start. Both in terms of rail vehicle design (handling and safety, vehicle loads) and vehicle operations, together with the user this exhibitor is able to swiftly and safely make vehicles production-ready for the market.
EVRAZ: Low temperature-resistant rail
EVRAZ is presenting a new kind of rail for the first time at InnoTrans 2016: head-hardened and suitable for use at extremely low temperatures. The exhibitor claims that this new type of rail is unique. In creating this product EVRAZ specialists have developed a new and special grade of steel and have also identified the parameters for hot rolling. These two factors ensure outstanding resistance to low temperatures. The rails are intended for use in cold climates where temperatures can fall to as low as -60 degrees Celsius. EVRAZ is constantly improving and upgrading products and production processes at its modernised factory in Novokusnezk (south west Siberia). Significant improvements have been made to the chemical composition of the steel grades, the rolling technology and the quality control system. Fifteen types of rail are currently in production, complying with Russian, European and American standards. EVRAZ states that it is among the world’s largest steel producers.
F.lli Bigaran: Composites for use with very high electrical power outputs
F.lli Bigaran has expanded its REFRARC range with the emphasis on project planning, and the development and production of innovative materials for arc chutes and insulators. “REFRARC P328” is a new fire-resistant CERAM composite, based on a non-hydraulic bond, and is made from fire-resistant clay and silicon oxide, the particles of which are held together by covalent bonding. The manufacturer was granted a patent for this development at the end of 2015. A number of products made with REFRARC P328 are now making their international debut at InnoTrans 2016. This new material enables the manufacturer to expand the range of its single plate technology for applications with high or even very high electrical power outputs. P328 products can be used in arc chutes and other devices. Another major advantage is that this new composite can be used to produce very complex shapes.
Faiveley Transport: Universal sliding door mechanism and an innovative platform gate
At InnoTrans Faiveley Transport is exhibiting five products which are making their first appearance on the world stage: a motor shaft brake caliper for trams, a new brake control system, the EcoPark®, the integrated APS HVAC and a natural refrigerant CO2 process. Other innovative products and services are also on display. They include the ESP4C® universal sliding door mechanism, which covers every market requirement regardless of door width, type of vehicle or market options. ClearFlow® is a new type of platform gate with higher and safer platform edge barriers and improved styling. ParkLock® is an innovative compact parking brake which features optimum braking force compared to existing systems. Due to fewer components being used ParkLock® requires very little installation space and is compatible with axle and wheel mounted disc brakes regardless of the market segment.
Fastwel Group: Reliable and robust electronics for rolling stock and rail infrastructure
The display by Fastwel Group at InnoTrans features reliable and robust electronics for rolling stock and rail infrastructure. The latest generation of the rugged HMI panel PC, the "BS04", is equipped with dual core 32 bit / 64 bit Intel Pineview-D (D510) x86 CPU, DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz 1 GB and a NAND 4 GB flash drive. The CCTV platform has been designed for use under challenging mechanical and electromagnetic conditions in transport and industry and offers IP 65 protection at ambient temperatures of -50 to +60 degrees Celsius. Also making its first appearance, the Freescale i.MX6-based tablet computer "ONYX08" for Android or Linux has been designed for use as an onboard tablet PC and offers a range of different functions. This unit can operate within a temperature range of -30 to +60 degrees Celsius and supports a large number of communication interfaces.
Federal-Mogul: Legal compliance and optimisation of wagon LCC
At InnoTrans Federal-Mogul Motorparts will be exhibiting two new innovative brake friction solutions for the first time. "Jurid 822" is a new composite K-block solution for single-sided brakes (1xBgu) and an evolution of the market-proven JURID816M product. According to the exhibitor, optimised contact surface areas and the friction material composition reduce wheel and block wear rates by up to 10 to 15 per cent compared to competitor solutions, thus significantly improving the life-cycle cost of the vehicle. "Jurid 847" is a new LL brake block that enables freight wagons originally equipped with cast iron blocks to comply with EU noise legislation. They are fully interchangeable with the cast iron blocks and provide a noise reduction solution for over 400,000 wagons in Europe affected by this legislation. The new products are currently undergoing final approval in order to comply with EU/TSI/UIC legislation prior to their market introduction in 2017.
Flexelec: Preformed, EN 45545-compliant silicon heating mats with double insulation
FLEXELEC is constantly developing and manufacturing silicon heating mats and cables for new applications. These include underfloor and pedal heating, to protect tanks and pipes against frost, to prevent the build-up of ice on points and third rails, under batteries, and around hydraulic components, position sensors and access areas. Rail transport is one of the main areas in which FLEXELEC products are used, and excellent results have been achieved with its customized heating mats and cables. There are three particular aspects of the heating mats where the new and innovative solutions have proved to be particularly effective: reliability, safety and ease of installation. The latest advances include a number of outstanding features. The double insulation on the FLEXMAT silicon heating mats ensures long-lasting resistance to water, and they are preformed, enabling them to be adapted to any shape, as well as being EN 45545-compliant.
Flexfab Europe: Lightweight and durable duct solutions
At InnoTrans 2016 Flexfab Europe will be exhibiting its latest lightweight duct solutions for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems in the rail industry on its booth in hall 18. These composite RFP (Reinforced Foam Panel) and RTL (Reinforced Thermoplastic Laminate) solutions provide significant weight savings over traditional metal ducts and can be designed with foam integrated into the body construction to reduce or eliminate the need for additional insulation. Customised design solutions for positive or negative pressures are always available. This UK-based company has been manufacturing a wide range of durable and lightweight HVAC duct solutions for passenger trains, diesel and electric locomotives since 1961. It has factories in the US, Europe, South America and China.
FLIR Intelligent Transportation Systems: Thermal fire alarm featuring thermal imaging sensor
Conventional alarm systems are not always able to immediately detect a rail carriage fire, which can often quickly spread. On the other hand cigarette smoke often triggers a system, causing false alarms and costly standstills. FLIR has developed a new thermal imaging sensor which is currently the fastest fire detection system on the market and according to the exhibitor triggers a minimum amount number of false alarms. The newly developed thermal imaging sensor is designed to be mounted on the railway carriage ceiling. The device monitors ambient heat radiation and detects "hot spots" as well as any fire in its early stages. It is equipped with a visual monitoring sensor which using thermal imagery also enables it to detect seat occupancy.
Forster Metallbau: Acoustically effective attachment
Experiments have been carried out for many decades in the field of "sound-absorbent edges". Now, for the first time, using a combination of simulation calculations and standardized, experiments, Forster has developed a clear physical solution: the FONOCON® sound resonator. This acoustically effective attachment has been optimised specifically for the noise spectrum of railways. It can be used with existing and newly installed sound insulating partitions. With the support of scientific partners that have provided the acoustic expertise, it is now possible at last to make unequivocal statements about actual effectiveness and to also assign such data to the relevant European standards. The acoustic effect is a major factor in rating the efficiency of a resonator. For the first this has been implemented with a design and an efficiency that is compatible with the Forster sound insulation system.
Fraunhofer LBF: Methodical arrangement of energy-harvesting sensors
Sensors that monitor the condition of the relevant subassemblies in freight wagons while in operation enable the maintenance process to be structured to meet the requirements of users. Various solutions are being presented by Fraunhofer LBF on its booth in hall 23 at InnoTrans 2016. These include monitoring methods, development tools and test rigs for such energy-self sufficient sensors. These sensors obtain their energy supply from the vibrations of freight wagons, providing needs-based maintenance through monitoring with energy-harvesting sensors. For the end user this makes the maintenance process more efficient, offering cost benefits which can be passed on directly to the customer or invested in the products to improve them. SMEs can thereby gain a competitive edge from the improvements to their products.

Fraunhofer IPM: High-resolution laser scanning and rapid image processing
At InnoTrans 2016 the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Systems (IPM) will be exhibiting some of its laser and camera rail measurement systems which include numerous evolutionary designs and additional functions. The focus will be on the new Contact Wire Inspection System (CIS), a globally unique overhead line measurement system which collects a comprehensive amount of data. A single contactless measurement can simultaneously determine the position and wear of up to ten lines at speeds of up to 350 km/h. Fraunhofer IPM will also be showcasing its "Clearance Profile Scanner" (CPS) as well as a small, lightweight laser measurement system for use on UAVs. All the measurement devices combine high-resolution laser scanning technology with rapid image processing.
Frauscher Sensortechnik: New generation of live tracking
This Austrian exhibitor is using InnoTrans for the world debut of its "Frauscher Tracking Solutions FTS". The basis for this innovation is provided by Distributed Acoustic Sensing, a single solution that enables data about trains, persons and components on and adjacent to the railway line to be recorded, tracked and monitored in real time. This exhibitor is confident that FTS will significantly alter railway operations to a greater extent than any previous technology. This company, based in St. Marienkirchen, will also be using its booth in hall 25 at the fair to present innovative tools for its latest generation of axle counters, the "Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC". The new Frauscher Alarming and Maintenance System FAMS provides railway operators with a compact solution for monitoring all their Frauscher axle counting components at a glance. The Frauscher Configuration Tool FCT offers system integrators new possibilities for speeding up configuration processes.
Frequentis: Uniform access to services
Railways on the move, the Finnish transport agency, has awarded Frequentis for implementing Europe’s first independent rail communications solution. The exhibitor’s “Unified Railway Communication and Application“ (URCA) fulfils the requirement for a cost-saving interim solution as a successor to GSM-R. It lets users migrate just as easily from GSM-R to the state-operated TETRA-Netz VIRVE (Viranomaisradioverkko) network as to public mobile networks for rail-bound communications. Outstanding points are widespread access to services via basic mobile networks and mobile smartphone access on trains. Furthermore, Frequentis is announcing its new Operations Communication Manager, an innovative web-based smart client application for rail controllers that can run on any device.
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies / Schwab Vibration Control: Overcoming basic rigidity
Together with Bombardier Transportation, Schwab Vibration Control, part of the Freudenberg Group, is currently working on the use of electrically actuated valves to extend the conventional HALL. The valves are controlled by means of an arc radius identification system. This opens the internal hydraulic system, as long as the wheelset is moving in the “right” direction, through the action of the Tx forces between the wheel and the rail. A change in direction causes the system to close. Similar to a chopper control system, the wheelset vibrations are converted into a setting motion. Advantages include the ability to overcome the basic rigidity of the conventional HALL. BOMBARDIER FLEXXTronic PRS makes it possible to over-compensate the wheelset adjustment. This offers additional advantages with regard to rolling contact fatigue. Moreover the component does not require the use of any sensors. Passive wheelset control reacts in a very similar way to an active system.
Ganser CRS: Common rail injection system for EMD 645 and 710 diesel engines
With the common rail injection system for EMD diesel engines, Ganser CRS is presenting another successful application for the efficient modernization of locomotive engines at InnoTrans 2016. Similar to the upgrades for GE 7FDL and ALCO 251 engines, the common rail system for EMD 645 and 710 engines allows substantial fuel savings to be achieved over the entire duty cycle, with a significant reduction in emissions. No changes to the existing cylinder head are required, which represents a decisive advantage when upgrading existing engines. The high pressure pumps are directly driven by the engine and supply the entire injection system with pressurized fuel at up to 1,600 bar. As with all Ganser CRS retrofit systems, the double walled piping concept guarantees maximum operating safety.
Gaugler & Lutz and SAERTEX: High fire safety standard and outstanding mechanical performance
"SAERTEX LEO" is an innovative composite system that meets the highest fire safety standards. In combination with LEOcore®, a high-performance material, it fulfils the DIN EN 45545 fire safety standard as well as DIN SPEC 91326 for vehicle manufacturing. The system also avoids adverse mechanical effects similar to those of conventional fire safety systems. Depending on the application in question and specific component demands the individual, modular components are compatible with each other and can satisfy the individual requirements of all kinds of projects. With this innovative system Gaugler & Lutz and SAERTEX will be exhibiting an outstanding new composite system at this year’s InnoTrans. It fulfils international fire safety standards and combines fire safety and excellent mechanical performance with an ultra-lightweight design.
GDS – Global Display Solutions: Ultra-thin digital timetable display
At InnoTrans 2016 a new A0-sized, EInk® technology-based Digital Timetable Poster will be making its world debut. This large-format, ultra-thin, completely fan-less display is part of the GDS e-Tela™ range. Information is readable even in broad daylight. According to the exhibitor the display is ideal for harsh outdoor digital signage applications, in transportation, road and price signs. Due to its low energy consumption it can also be entirely solar powered, which reduces infrastructure costs. This 54’’ solution consists of 3 tiled 32’’ E ink displays, and uses GDS G+Bond™ and G+Natural-light™ technology. While G+Bond creates a seamless display, suitable for any indoor or outdoor environment, G+Natural-light gives the display a uniform front light, making it ideal for night-time and daylight use.
Getzner Werkstoffe: Saving costs with elastomer-supported points and joins
At InnoTrans Getzner will be fully devoting its displays to points, joins and high-speed points in the Gotthard Base Tunnel. Sylodyn®, a vibration isolating material, introduces flexibility to solid track and reduces wear on superstructure components. In order to meet the special demands of the Gotthard Base Tunnel Getzner, in collaboration with voestalpine Weichensysteme, has developed a solution specifically for high-speed points which will be making its world debut at InnoTrans. Despite the heavy loads involved, high reliability and a long working life of the track superstructure are assured. The specific conditions of the Gotthard Base Tunnel which this product must withstand are frequent track use by up to 250 trains daily at speeds of up to 250 kph, ambient temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius, 70 per cent humidity, as well as strong pressurization and depressurization caused by trains passing at high speed.
GL S.A.: Juices from protected fruit
This 100-year old Portuguese company, which is exhibiting at InnoTrans for the first time, produces juices under the brand name SONATURAL, and these are made exclusively from fresh fruit. The apples and pears are grown in Alcobaça, a protected region in Portugal, and have been awarded DOP classification, meaning that the European Union has recognised their excellent quality and their unique properties and has accordingly granted them protected status. The vegetables are grown by associated farmers and are harvested in accordance with the Integration Protection System, to ensure that they retain their fresh taste, bright colours and good nutritional balance. Filtered water is used to minimise contamination and modern methods are applied to improve the quality of the juices obtained from the fruit and vegetables, which are hand-selected. No heat is used in the pasteurisation of SONATURAL juices, and they are not sterilised either, in order to retain the nutrients and the texture.
Glas Trösch: More complex shapes and material compatibility
Replacing a defective windscreen that is directly glued to the head of the vehicle is extremely time-consuming and costly due to the long curing time of the adhesive material. Innovative solutions are therefore needed in order to facilitate the maintenance work and reduce downtimes. Working together with its customers Glas Trösch AG Rail has developed a system for windscreen frames that uses glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFP). This innovation is being shown for the first time at InnoTrans 2016 and can be seen on the Swiss company’s booth in hall 1.1 and also on the Outdoor Display. This exhibitor’s solution, using glass fibre reinforced plastic, offers a number of advantages compared with existing approaches, allowing more complex shapes, reducing weight and offering material-compatibility with the GRP material of the train head and with the pane.
Goratu Maquinas Herramienta: Horizontal lathe for manufacturing wheelsets
Goratu Máquinas Herramienta produced its first machine tool 50 years ago. Nowadays the Spanish company makes tailored and highly specialised hi-tech products for numerous customers, including the rail industry. At InnoTrans Goratu will be exhibiting the "GEMINIS GT7/R", the company’s latest horizontal lathe for manufacturing wheelsets. This machine, which will be making its first appearance on the world stage, is the latest addition to the company’s wide range of products, which besides horizontal and vertical lathes also include multi-processing machines and processing centres featuring cutting-edge technology. Machines made by Goratu can be used to manufacture and maintain chassis components such as axles, wheels and wheelsets. Based in Elgoibar in the north of Spain, the company exports 90 per cent of its sales and has subsidiaries in Germany, the UK, Italy, Russia, India and China.
Günther Spelsberg: Separate circuit box for non-truncated cables measuring up to 50 mm²
At InnoTrans Günther Spelsberg GmbH + Co. KG will be exhibiting its Rapid Box, a separate circuit box for non-truncated cables measuring up to 50 mm². Tunnels as well as industrial and high-rise buildings contain an infinite amount of cabling. The lighting installed in tunnels is a typical example, where a separate circuit is often required for each lamp so that in the event of a failure only one unit is affected. Installing junction boxes, distribution points and automatic units is immensely time-consuming and requires a vast amount of wiring. The Rapid Box makes these tasks a lot cheaper and quicker to deal with. The casing has been specifically designed to accommodate separate circuits for non-truncated cables measuring up to 50 mm² (Cu). Installing it takes no more than 15 minutes and all the switching device combinations are VDE and MPA-approved. The Rapid Box conforms to EN61439 and EN1363 fire resistance specifications.
Günzburger Steigtechnik: Efficient maintenance systems – Battery-powered work platforms
Günzburger Steigtechnik is presenting the first cable-less, adjustable work platform for the railway industry at InnoTrans 2016. This innovative development, representing the latest generation of electrically adjustable work platforms with a highly efficient battery-powered motor, enables work to be carried out where no mains power is available. With its roof working stages, electrically adjustable maintenance platforms, walkways, landings, working platforms over rail tracks, steps and bridging structures this exhibitor can boost workshop efficiency and improve working safety for maintenance personnel. One of the main advantages of the new work platforms is the “zero gap”, with lateral extensions, which permit one-man operations on complex installations as well as allowing several maintenance teams to work on a vehicle at the same time. Moreover the electrically adjustable work platforms can be moved into the required working position at the press of a button.
HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft: Real-time communications
The new HIP live monitoring tool (HAFAS Instant Platform) makes it possible for passengers and transport companies to communicate in real time with one another, be it for providing customer reviews, feedback or checking in. Using an HAFAS app passengers can book their fare and provide online feedback based on various criteria. This is relayed to a control centre or the train personnel who are able to process it immediately. Thanks to HIP, transport companies can receive information on passenger numbers boarding and alighting, journeys and connections booked, which in turn provides statistical data for improving train schedules and routes. Furthermore, at InnoTrans the HaCon team will be exhibiting the first prototype of an app for kids, a new train connection search featuring drag and drop, interactive network plans, HAFAS bots for Facebook as well as the HAFAS Smart VMS Vehicle Management System with an integrated navigation component.
HAUGG Industriekühler: Modern Cooling and air conditioning concepts for hybrid, electric and diesel propulsion systems
The highly efficient cooling plates made by the Kühler HAUGG Group, a specialist in engine cooling systems and vehicle air conditioning, are used to cool not only the power electronics but also the battery. Depending on the external conditions, they provide cooling or raise the temperature and maintain it in the ideal range. The model of the latent heat accumulator has been developed as part of the qOpt research project in association with the motor vehicle research company Forschungsgesellschaft Kraftfahrwesen Aachen (fka) as the leader of the consortium and the Kühler HAUGG Group as the industrial partner. The project is focused on developing a latent heat accumulator in combination with an intelligent operating strategy for waste heat recovery. The objectives are to extend the range of an electric vehicle, to store lost energy and to make it available to meet requirements, as well as to increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle.
Hawker Siddeley Switchgear: Enhanced safety for users and trackside workers
The "SafeBond", made by Hawker Siddeley Switchgear, provides enhanced safety for users and trackside workers and will be making its debut at InnoTrans 2016. By including a two-position motorised disconnector on the busbar side of the circuit breaker, the SafeBond may be used to either feed the track for normal service, or bond the conductor system to earth for safety. SafeBond is fully interlocked to prevent unsafe operation. The greatest benefit of SafeBond is that all load and fault switching is performed by a high-speed circuit breaker which enhances operator safety when compared to traditional earthing switches. Herbert Gehrisch Elektrotechnik: Door closing force measurement device
At InnoTrans 2016 Herbert Gehrisch Elektrotechnik GmbH will be exhibiting its new "HGE-DC700N" door closing force measurement device for use on trains, trams and buses for the first time. This new product fulfils all the requirements of "DIN EN 14752:2015 Railway applications – body side entrance systems for rolling stock". The device is supplied with individually-sized spacers for measuring the closing force of doors when opened to 50, 100, 200, 300 and 500 mm respectively, or alternatively to customer specifications. A robust "PSION WORKABOUT" handheld computer which features a colour screen to IP 65 protection class specifications lets users enter all the relevant data and displays peak force (Fp), duration of closing action (tpeak) and time elapsed until door reverse action (trev). Visual and acoustic signals offer practical help for indicating when designated limits are exceeded.
HiLT Fire: Using fluid dynamics to save lives
Based in Singapore, this company adopts a holistic approach to fire safety, which complies with statutory requirements and well as meeting the commercial needs of owners. It specializes in finding engineering solutions based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). With licences for specialized software such as PyroSim, Path Finder and STEPS, it is able to ensure that the relevant projects are carried out effectively. For example, CFD models are used to simulate the evacuation of vehicle occupants, showing the possible paths taken by smoke and the movement of passengers in the event of a fire. This allows the responsible officials in a company to reach important decisions regarding the operation of transit lines. HiLT Fire, which is exhibiting at InnoTrans for the first time, is constantly engaged in such projects and employs certificated fire engineers.
HTV Halbleiter-Test & Vertriebs-GmbH: Long-term conservation and storage for 50 years or more
According to the exhibitor, the HTV group of companies is a market leader in testing, component programming, long-term conservation and storage, as well as analysing electronic components, and at InnoTrans will be showcasing numerous services from a wide range specifically designed for the rail sector. In the company’s own words, this includes TAB®, a long-term service for conserving and storing electronic components for up to 50 years or more. Among the company’s other services are removing oxidation and contamination on component connections using HTV-revivec®, durable tin-plating for electronic components using HTV-NovaTIN® (enabling them to be resoldered), deleting and reprogramming OTPs using HTV-OTP-Alive, as well as comprehensive testing and analytical services that include quality control and error analysis.
IBC Wälzlager: Constant radii and variable curves
Non-linear movement sequences can be achieved with the new Flexy-Runner guidance system from IBC Wälzlager, enabling it to deal effectively with constant radii as well as variable curves. The manufacturer describes this system as an extremely flexible and economical solution, running smoothly on moving rollers, even on complex track layouts. Two profiles are available, according to customer specifications. Typical applications include door guide systems on internal train doors and machinery housings. The rail profiles that are available are CC 35 with 15.5 x 10.10 mm and CC 45 with 23.1 x 13.50 mm. The minimum radius is 120 mm, the angular tolerance of the radii: ± 1 degree. The surface of the rail is electrogalvanised, and other coatings are available on request.
IBS Scherer: Robust steel construction provides excellent stability
The enclosed workshop version of the new G-50-W/ G-50-I component-cleaning unit from IBS is notable for its stable and compact design. The closed front and robust steel construction ensure excellent stability. Another advantage of the two units is their safe working load. The workshop version “Type G-50-W” has been approved for cleaning components weighing up to 50 kg, while the industrial version ”Type G-50-I” can be used for cleaning parts with a weight of up to 150 kg. This is where the two models differ from one another. Whereas the “Type G-50-W” has a working area of 646 x 465 mm, providing sufficient room for “traditional” maintenance components such as those found in automobile workshops, the industrial version, the “Typ G-50-I” can tackle much larger jobs. The high grade slats of the working area, measuring 790 x 490 mm, can be used to clean even large components in accordance with the proven IBS-Scherer principle.
icotek: High strain relief and packing density, and quick to install
The “KEL-ER” separable cable entries from icotek for cables fitted with plugs are available in many different sizes and are outstanding on account of their ease of assembly and maintenance. All kinds of cables, hoses and lines with diameters of 2 to 34 mm can be inserted, sealed to IP65/NEMA 4X and de-tensioned in accordance with DIN EN 50262 without the need for additional cable ties. Excellent de-tensioning, high packing density and very quick installation are among the advantages of the new “KEL-DPU” cable grommet plate from this exhibitor, for cables without plugs. Up to 32 cables with diameters of between 3.2 and 20.5 mm can be fed through in very confined spaces. By reliably and efficiently preventing interference the SKL screened clamps from icotek ensure the safe operation of machinery and installations. Compared with standard screening clamps, those from SKL have a contact area that is up to 50 per cent larger, which protects against high frequency interference much more effectively.
IGH Automation: AQIs test bench solutions for optimized manufacturing
The display by IGH Automation at InnoTrans 2016 features adaptable AQIs test benches with modules such as testing, fault management and ERP communication. “AQIs” enables function testing to be carried out at an early stage of the production process. In this way users can identify faults in the sub-assemblies before they are installed, thereby substantially reducing diagnostic and repair costs. AQIs is the ideal tool for optimizing manufacturing, for use in quality assurance, commissioning and function testing, parametrization and documentation. “AQIs checklists” dispense with the need for paper, because all the data can be recorded digitally, working instructions can be visualized, and quality can be assured. Whether it involves the receipt of goods, pre-assembly, assembly, maintenance or quality control, AQIs checklists enable business processes to be standardized, digitalized and optimized.
IHI Corporation: 3D laser radar system for safer rail crossings
The 3D laser radar system (3DLR) being displayed by IHI Corporation at InnoTrans 2016 has been developed to provide a highly accurate object detection system. Unlike image sensors, the detection capabilities of the pulse laser radar technology that is used by the 3DLR are not affected by bad weather or poor lighting. The device can immediately detect any object in real time, and can monitor the position, size and movement within a designated observation area. More than 1,600 of these 3D laser radar systems have already been installed in Japan in order to improve the safety of rail crossings. In Japan and Singapore the 3DLR is also being used as a driving safety support system (DSSS) and as a key component in future smart traffic intersections. Work on other possible applications is currently in progress.
Industridraperier: Preventing heat from escaping
At InnoTrans 2016 the Swedish company Industridraperier is presenting a weather seal for train sheds, adapted to match individual port openings and securely covering the entire vehicle to prevent any heat from escaping. This patented solution consists of a robust PVC-coated, flame-resistant polyester fabric that complies with ISO 3795 (burning rate <100 mm/min). The seals are filled with hot air to provide additional insulation against the cold. The weather seal is individually customized and is supplied complete with the necessary electrical installations and control system. It can be integrated in an existing safety signalling system. The solution on display is completely maintenance-free and enables rail companies to achieve considerable energy savings when carrying out cleaning and maintenance work on their rolling stock. The manufacturer draws attention to its many other uses in manufacturing and maintenance buildings and in machine shops.
Ingenieria de maquinaria ferroviaria: Multifunctional track maintenance machine
Rhineadora Track Machine is the name of the high-performance machine making its first appearance on the world stage. According to the Spanish manufacturer Ingenieria de maquinaria ferroviaria, this multifunctional track maintenance machine, which requires only three operators, can simultaneously carry out every type of mechanisation and profiling task both on straight tracks and points. The machine is equipped with independent tamping units which can raise a points section by up to 3,000 mm and insert up to 2,800 mm of material. On straight track sections the machine performs a continuous operation consisting of levelling, straightening, compacting and stabilising in accordance with track specifications and with the necessary tamping force. The machine features two lateral ploughs, a twin central plough, a 5 m³ ballast hopper and a high-performance collection tray for solid pipes. Both the front and rear ends are equipped with ground-penetrating radar.
INIT: ID-based ticketing system
At InnoTrans 2016 INIT Innovative Informatikanwendungen in Transport-, Verkehrs- und Leitsystemen GmbH will be presenting its revolutionary ID / account-based ticketing system which helps public transport companies to improve the quality of their service and their sales processes. Unlike a conventional system issuing printed tickets this ID-based ticketing system stores all the information in a centralised backend system such as MOBILEvario where all ticket sales are processed in real time. This makes it possible for transport companies to handle ticketing in more flexible ways, incorporate innovative sales channels, and develop multimodal, comprehensive solutions. In addition to smartcards from transport companies passengers can also use NFC smartphones and EMV-based contactless credit cards and bank cards.
Innodisk: E-mark certified SSD storage solutions
At InnoTrans Innodisk, a service-oriented company marketing flash drives, DRAM modules and peripheral devices, will be exhibiting its new E-mark certified SSD series for the first time. According to the exhibitor, this company was the first manufacturer of peripheral devices to receive European E-mark certification two years ago. The company is now working on obtaining certification for additional SSDs. What is more, in the words of the company, Innodisk is the only provider of storage solutions to have gained multiple certification in accordance with In-vehicle computing standards for EMI resistance. This SSD series also conforms to SAE J1113(US), ISO 7637-2 and US MIL-STD-810F/G military specifications. Innodisk In-vehicle storage solutions feature EMI certification in accordance with automotive standards (flash) as well as exclusive iCel and iData Guard technology which protect against data loss in the event of power failure.
intreXis: Extra-wide input voltage range
The “intreXis Boardnet Converter Platform” being displayed at InnoTrans by this exhibitor is a world first for high performance DC-DC converters in the 500 W category. The outstanding features of the intreXis generation of converters are the ultra-wide input voltage range of between 14.4 and 154 VDC, 500 W power rating and 96 per cent efficiency. The ultra-wide input voltage range of this DC-DC converter enables it to be used in railway applications with all the nominal voltages of 24, 36, 48, 72 and 110 V, without requiring switching or configurational changes. The full output of 500 W is available throughout the entire temperature range in the TX category, from -40 to +85 degrees Celsius, in accordance with EN50155, without de-rating and dispensing with the use of fans. This is made possible because of the high efficiency, 96 per cent in 110 V operation and 92 per cent in 24 V operation. Among the other advantages are a galvanic separation of 3,000 VAC, active start up current limitation and a hold up time of 10 ms.
IVU Traffic Technologies: All the data in a single system
All the data in a single system for fully digitised work flows: this is now available to transport companies with the “IVU.suite”. It covers planning and dispatch, operational control, ticketing and passenger information, all the way to final controlling. The modular, fully integrated system of software and hardware provides for a continuous work flow. Jiangsu Pangea Industrial Development: Ultra-lightweight, non-flammable and sound absorbing
For the first time at InnoTrans 2016 Jiangsu Pangea Industrial Development will be exhibiting its new RF C900 soundproofing material. This carbon fibre, sound absorbing, non-flammable material is 1.6 times lighter than conventional glass fibre insulation. It has good regenerative properties when subjected to pressure and vibration and is used mainly for sound insulation on wagons. If desired, customers can also be supplied with an aluminium foil laminated product. This non-flammable material has been tested to comply with the following international standards: EN45545-2, BS 6853, BS 476, DIN5510-2, NFPA 130, BSS 7239 und TB / T 3237. It does not melt in a fire and emits no toxic fumes. RF C900 N is easy to work on and can be easily cut into any shape.

The measurement systems used on railways must be of the highest standard and capable of providing reliable readings for decades, even when exposed to extreme vibration and shock, at temperatures ranging from -40 to +100 degrees Celsius, and when subjected to excess voltages. KONCAR Electrical Industry: Double leaf wide doors for faster exchange of passengers
The new diesel-electric multiple unit from the Croatian company KONCAR is a three-part, low-floor vehicle for use on regional services. It has seating for 167 and additional standing room for 175 passengers. It is provided with four pairs of double-leaf doors, two ramps for wheelchair users and space for bicycles. The wide doors facilitate the faster exchange of passengers. The train is equipped with a modern heating and ventilation system, video surveillance and wifi internet access. The 60 per cent tinted windows provide protection against the sun. Both visual and acoustic messages are available on the passenger information system, which is based on the train’s GPS data. The diesel-electric multiple unit has been developed on the basis of the KONCAR electric multiple unit, combining diesel-electric and electric power. The technical design of the low floor multiple units provides the basis for the further development of vehicles for other supply voltages and also hybrid solutions.
KRAIBURG Relastec: Now Q1 supplier to DB AG
DAMTEC® SBM K is so far the only granulated rubber mat laid under ballast to have been approved by DB Netz AG. This isolating mat is made from a special mixture of high grade, recycled rubber granules and a polyurethane elastomer. All the materials used are “post-industrial” and have therefore not been exposed to any ageing processes. They are used on track with a thickness of 10 mm at wheel loads of up to 25 t and all usual speeds. DAMTEC® SBM K protects the ballast, thereby extending its working life by means of a reduced and more even load, and also ensures continuous track stability. It can also protect structures and/or seals. DAMTEC® SBM K is supplied from the factory with a laminated fleece, which prevents penetration by dust or grit from the ballast and ensures that the under-ballast mat is water-permeable.
L.B. Foster: Remote condition monitoring and vehicle operation CCTV
At InnoTrans L.B. Foster Bahntechnik, which specialises in track components and friction management, is exhibiting two products making their international debut: the new “Railway of Things” Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) capability and the robust Driver Only Operation (DOO) CCTV system, designed for the new Elizabeth Line on Network Rail. The key components of the RCM systems by L.B. Foster comprise several remote sensors which measure environmental changes such as ground movement, heat (i.e. rail expansion) or water level changes. CCTV is used to provide visual proof of any changes in external conditions. The company’s new DOO CCTV system features a specially designed, retractable mounting system (RMS). This makes it possible to carry out maintenance on DOO CCTV cameras at platform level without the need for additional equipment to provide access, or insulation.
Lankhorst Engineered Products: Good damping characteristics and continuous track stiffness
Lankhorst Engineered Products have developed the KLP® hybrid plastic sleeper, which is ideal for main line use. This new kind of plastic sleeper has the same damping characteristics as timber sleepers and provides continuous track stiffness, making it suitable as a replacement for timber sleepers. To achieve the necessary stiffness and strength, KLP® plastic sleepers are reinforced with two steel bars. The production process, which has been developed and patented by Lankhorst, involves moulding the reinforcing rods completely within the plastic. Compared with timber, these plastic sleepers are expected to have a much longer working life, with lower life cycle costs. A flatter version of the plastic sleeper is available, measuring 275 x 150 x 2,400 mm, or with a built in angle of 1:20 or 1:40.
Lanner Electronics: Efficiently controlling the flow of information about modern rail systems
Smart and reliable solutions are needed to handle complicated rolling stock tasks, mastering the transfer of data between the train and the control centre, and capable of processing information from sub-systems such as the air conditioning, door controls and passenger information systems. To handle these tasks Lanner has introduced its highly integrated 3U rail system LVR-8300, which is equipped with a fourth generation Intel Core i5 4422E (Haswell) processor. The CPU has been designed for multiple data transmissions and can efficiently control the flow of information from a modern rail system. As an option, for less complicated tasks, the LVR-8300 is also available with the Intel Celeron 2002E. Equipped with the Intel x86 open standard, the system structure can be easily diagnosed and maintained. The LVR-8300 offers up to 16 M12 PoE Ethernet ports for connections to networking devices such as wifi access points and / or IP surveillance equipment.
Lantal Textiles: Lightweight, leather-look train seat covers
In order to offer customers lightweight, easy-to-clean, leather-look seat covers Lantal Textiles will be introducing TEC leather, a new design, onto the market early next year. This product will be making its world debut at InnoTrans 2016. In terms of its properties and what it offers TEC leather is far superior to previously known leather and artificial leather products available on the market and represents a high-class alternative. The quality of this innovative product conforms to the EN 45545-2 railway standard and can be used as a seat cover without a fire retardant. TEC leather can also be easily cleaned using water or an alcohol-based agent. Other advantages of this new Lantal product are its light weight, elasticity and the ease with which it can be shaped to fit any kind of seat.

Lausitz Elaste GmbH has over 70 years of experience in designing and manufacturing high-quality elastomer products. The company manufactures to customer specifications and is able to offer expert advice during the construction phase. Linsinger Maschinenbau: Rail reprofiling on track with small clearance diameters and tight curves
This Austrian exhibitor is presenting its latest development at InnoTrans: the "MG11" rail milling train, which has been designed specifically for light rail and metro systems. Many years of experience are behind the compact design of this train, which enables rails to be reprofiled on track with a small structure clearance diameter and tight curves. The unit can be easily, quickly and cheaply dispatched to its destination in a standard shipping container. The MG11 does not produce any emissions such as sparks or grinding dust, thereby eliminating any hazards during the rail reprofiling process. With this technology the LINSINGER company is showing the way for an overall concept that is low maintenance and eco-friendly. The manufacturer describes this as yet another innovative product employing sustainable, reliable and clean technology at a reasonable price.
Loccioni Group: 3D reconstruction of inspected rail sections
According to the exhibitor "Felix®" is the first mobile robot that can automatically inspect railway points, crossings and tracks. It was designed to increase points reliability, guarantee rail safety and solve maintenance scheduling problems. The robot is equipped with ’profilometers’ which create 3D reconstructions of inspected sections. Felix® was first shown at InnoTrans 2014. It has been continuously upgraded ever since and now features the latest hardware components and new software architecture. Thus it can now also collect rail wear data. Furthermore, Felix® is able to collect twice the amount of data of its predecessor in the same space of time. The Loccioni Group develops quality control testing systems to customers’ specifications and optimises the production processes of market leaders in various industries.
Mabo: A simple storage system that is corrosion-resistant and easy to install
Among the new products from the Polish company Mabo that can be seen at this year’s InnoTrans are special suspension systems for protecting overhead power lines, and a new tensioning device for contact cables and wires. The protection system for overhead lines is available either in aluminium or stainless steel. This modern solution is lighter than the suspension system currently in use for overhead power lines. The advantages of this new product include its simple bearing system, excellent resistance to corrosion, ease of installation and adjustment, and a more attractive appearance. Mabo is also displaying a new tensioning device for contact cables and wires. This device has been designed to ensure a constant tension on wires and cables to compensate for longitudinal movement. It offers a number of advantages: it is unaffected by temperature changes, the tensioning element is easy to install, it is theft-resistant and maintains a constant tension throughout the entire section.
Madico: Graffiti free films with new test results and certifications
At InnoTrans Madico is exhibiting its Graffiti-Free® film products on which independent testing has been recently completed. According to the exhibitor the latest test data make these products the most highly certified on the market today. Graffiti Free® films act as a sacrificial barrier helping to control vandalism and provide a cost-effective alternative to replacing damaged glazing. Madico has been selling its trusted Graffiti Free® films for more than ten years and now has the extensive test data and certifications available to support their positive claims. The films are now fully compliant with the EN 45545 Fire Safety Standard for railway components. This certification includes fire protection on rail vehicles, smoke toxicity, heat release, and additionally several ANSI Z26.1 standards including luminous transmittance, humidity and impact resistance.
Mait: Drilling machine for road and rail use
For many years the Italian company MAIT has been specialising in the design and manufacture of drilling machines, drilling and pile-driving equipment, and partitioning. The latest addition to its product range is the RD100, a drilling machine for both road and rail use which is mounted on a road-rail excavator. The boom’s height and lean angles make it possible to load earth directly onto rail wagons, thus avoiding the need for temporary storage next to rail lines. The RD100 can be driven independently and manufactured to various specifications. It can be used for drilling in road and rail construction and complies with the necessary European standards. At InnoTrans 2016 MAIT will be exhibiting the RD100 and other items from its extensive product range in hall 5.2.
MB Sistemas: Automated rail vehicle assembly
At InnoTrans MB Sistemas will be exhibiting its latest automated systems for manufacturing rail vehicles. Thus, the company has developed special production lines for making passenger car components, for example the side panels of the vehicle roof. Since 2008 the exhibitor has been developing complex automated systems for railway projects. They include the installation of welding systems for CAF, the introduction of new tools for mass transit systems in São Paulo and Recife in Brazil, for Saudi Railways and for the Amtrak rail network in the US. They have also supplied Kawasaki in Lincoln, Nebraska, with a highly efficient welding system line for manufacturing corrugated panels. MB Sistemas works closely with R&D centres in order to benefit from the latest findings with regard to metallic and non-metallic bonding technologies.
Mecatraction / SBI Connectors: Secure connection resists even the heaviest vibration
SBI Connectors, an associate of Mecatraction, will be represented at InnoTrans 2016 with a new series of cable terminals for use with aluminium bonding connections. These products were tested and approved based on electrical and mechanical specifications from Deutsche Bahn. Two types are available: recessed aluminium terminals for bonding connections in railway systems and short cylindrical aluminium connectors for bonding connections in soundproof walls. These new products from this Spanish company are tin-plated, making them more resistant to corrosion. They feature pressure points to ensure safe and easy compression and an encapsulated cylinder containing terminal grease. Available terminal bolt sizes are M12 and M16. These can be tightened to 80 Nm, guaranteeing a secure connection that can resist even heavy vibration.
Metawell: Digital printing, sound insulation and integrated heating
Metawell® lightweight aluminium panels are now available with digital printing in accordance with EN 45545 HL3. This exhibitor states that digital printing avoids the problems that might occur when attaching HPL or foils, such as stretching or shrinking. Excellent scratch-resistance and stability, even under challenging conditions such as high humidity and fluctuating temperatures, are among the advantages offered by this lightweight printed material. Moreover functions such as heating or sound insulation can be incorporated in the corrugated channels that are a characteristic feature of Metawell®. Filled with various materials, with a panel height of 11.5 mm and a maximum weight of 20.0 kg/m², a sound insulation figure of up to Rw=38 dB can be attained. Consequently, when planning the floor of a rail vehicle, this enables the best possible combination of required sound insulation and minimum weight, while retaining the same panel height.
MICRONOR: Identifying weak points and breakdowns at an early stage
Measuring acceleration at the pantograph can be difficult, or it can be made very easy. The MR660, a new compact, fibre optic acceleration sensor from MICRONOR, is on display at InnoTrans 2016. Like the cabling it is 100 per cent passive and, as a plug-and-play solution, it can be easily installed even by non-experts. Nowadays it is vital to maintain the value of rolling stock and infrastructure, with the aim of being able to identify breakdowns at an early stage, and to plan maintenance intervals effectively. This helps to reduce costs and ensure operational reliability. Mounted on pantographs, the new MICRONOR single-axis acceleration sensor is the most effective way of achieving this objective. On high speed trains and city trams alike, the overhead line and the pantograph can be used to supply important details about the condition of the infrastructure and the rolling stock.
Mida Solutions: Voice and video recording system on eLTE
Mida Solutions offers products that combine railway technologies such as GSM-R with the latest VoIP technologies based on SIP- and SIP-R standards. For the first time, at InnoTrans 2016, Mida Solutions will be presenting its MidaRec system, which operates on eLTE broadband. MidaRec supports all the relevant communication technologies involved in the transportation and professional worlds. It ensures scalability, reliability and modularity, and supports virtualization. The application software is independent of the underlying hardware. The system provides a unified view of all communications, a secure repository and a search and play console accessible from any device. The main advantages are the comprehensive recording platform, it is not dependent on a particular hardware, it saves costs, and its flexible system architecture supports older and future technology.
MTU Friedrichshafen: Eco-friendlier power units
Following extensive trials the MTU Hybrid PowerPack is now commercially available. It links a diesel motor and combined electric motor / generator with a battery system in order to store regenerated braking energy. Compared with diesel-only power using modern MTU motors it achieves fuel savings of up to 25 per cent and a significant reduction in noise emissions. It is also suitable for new developments and for motor retrofitting and can be used with pantographs. Because all its individual components are carefully coordinated with one another, the MTU Hybrid PowerPack helps to protect the environment as well as achieving cost savings. Another new feature is the MTU EnergyPack battery system, which has been specifically designed to meet rail transport requirements, complies with all the relevant railway standards and has demonstrated its reliability in long term trials.
Multi-Contact: Equipped for high speed communication
The Swiss company Multi-Contact, a specialist manufacturer of connectors, has now added a 10 Gbit module for ethernet communication to its "CombiTac" range of modular contacts. This module meets the requirements of CAT6A. Like most of the products from Multi-Contact this unit has been designed for 100,000 mating cycles. The 10 Gbit module has is intended for use in demanding industrial applications and is vibration-resistant in accordance with IEC 60512-6-4. It is ideal for industrial ethernet applications in the manufacturing industry, where large volumes of data have to be transmitted. Because it satisfies the railway standard EN 45545-1 this module is also suitable for railway use. Connection to surrounding units is via a RJ45 plug-in connector with customary patch cables. This means that, should the cable be damaged, or reach the end of its life cycle, only the cable itself needs to be replaced.
MöllerWerke: Flexible connections to customer requirements
MöllerWerke GmbH manufactures flexible couplings connecting air-conditioning devices and air ducts which help to ensure optimum ambient conditions in trains. These couplings even out any differences between moving parts and gaps between fixed components. The company’s latest product is an optimised one-part sealing system made to customer specifications for which a patent is pending. This combined system makes it easier to install even in cramped spaces and improves access. The basic material is a fibre-reinforced elastomer which conforms to R1/HL2 in accordance with the EN 45545-2 fire safety standard. Use of 3D data makes it possible to produce all kinds of shapes and sizes. Special characteristics include flanges that are easy to install, featuring one-part shaped elastomer seals with innovative edges that guarantee a reliable and permanent seal.

Müller-BBM: Audible testing to check awareness of warning signals
On the railways restricted hearing ability as a result of the use of ear protectors can pose an increased risk of accidents. However, statutory regulations require the use of ear protectors when the noise level reaches LEX > 85 dB(A). In order to comply with these conflicting requirements calculations have to be made for all forms of hearing protection, in order to establish whether typical warning signals can be heard. Before it can be used, any hearing protection that has been tested to ensure that it complies with these calculations must also pass an individual hearing test. RaLa-GS from Müller-BBM is a complete system for checking the threshold awareness, and can be used to conduct individual tests, as a means of establishing whether warning signals can be heard by a user with and without hearing protection. It also enables individual tests on the audibility of warning signals to be conducted on train and shunter drivers in accordance with BGI/ GUV-I 5147. Another highlight of the display by this exhibitor at the trade show is a unit for continuously measuring railway noise levels.
NEM Solutions: Monitoring and management of key performance indicators
“A.U.R.A Desk” is an intelligent workstation that has been developed for the monitoring and management of key commercial performance indicators and associated data. The new version is being presented for the first time anywhere in the world at InnoTrans 2016. It combines all the economic and technical information about the overall state of a fleet at one location. The exhibitor describes it as the perfect tool for analyzing, comparing and extracting the relevant knowledge about fleets, units, lines and rail projects. Its purpose is to provide a consultation arena in which users can rapidly identify potential problems and closely monitor existing difficulties. The in-house development of smart data techniques using big data combined with the company`s expertise in the railway sector enable users to interact with key items of information originating from within their fleets.
NetModule: Multimedia railway router
In particular the NB3800 router from NetModule, which is certified to comply with the railway standard EN 50155 and CEN TS 45545, sets new standards in PWLAN and passenger entertainment. Equipped with up to four LTE mobile radio telephony modules, it can establish simultaneous connections, thereby ensuring reliable internet services on board trains. For PWLAN the NB3800 provides up to two access points in accordance with IEEE 802.11ac with a data throughput of 450 Mbit/s. It separates different networks, ensuring dedicated communication paths for passenger data and operating data. A solid state disk with a storage capacity of up to one terabyte can be used to hold documents and pictures as well as audio and video files, which can also be made available offline. Independent web pages and content can also be integrated via the high performance web server, and audio or video data can also be streamed. Consequently videos can also be viewed on individual smart devices.
NEXCOM EUROPE: Robust railway computers – enhanced video analytics and passenger infotainment
The NEXCOM EUROPE "VTC 7220-R", a robust railway computer, enhances passenger safety and also supports on-demand infotainment. Featuring an Intel® Core™ i7-4650U processor, it allows the computers to reliably stream and store surveillance footage in full HD. The series supports two 2.5“ hard disks with up to 4TB capacity in total which enables storage of multimedia files or full HD surveillance recordings for seven days from up to four cameras. Numerous I/O interfaces simplify the integration of on-board systems so that any suspicious occurrences or system malfunctions can be detected in time. The EN 50155-certified computer series stores videos, surveillance footage, entertainment files and is shockproof, resistant to electromagnetic interference and withstands extreme temperatures. It supports 24, 36, and 110 V DC power inputs and has a wide range of applications.
Next Generation Rail Technologies: Enhanced safety in rail infrastructure
NGRT has designed a number of applications that will be making their debut at InnoTrans. They are designed to improve safety and reduce risks in combination with standard and certified products and solutions. Products include a broken rail detection (BRD) system, a rockslide and avalanche detection (RAD) system and a flat wheel detection (FWD) system. BRD detects breaks in rails, separated rails and any rail profile anomalies that could pose an operational risk. The rockslide and avalanche detection (RAD) system detects any objects obstructing the track which could cause a derailment. The Flat Wheel Detection (FWD) system detects wheels that could cause serious damage to the rail network and, in a worst-case scenario, a derailment. Each of these systems alerts network managers and maintenance personnel.
NEXTSENSE: Cost-efficient measuring device replaces mechanical gauges
Just in time for InnoTrans 2016 the specialist in optical metrology, NEXTSENSE, presents a revolutionary and cost effective handheld device for measuring wheel profiles. With its unique combination of well-established, contactless measurement technology and a focus on a single measurement task CALIPRI Prime offers a clear alternative to the error-prone wheel flange gauge. This is a real benefit for random maintenance stages or small workshops. Within seconds an entire wheel profile can be evaluated contact-free and thus completely free of any operator influences. The results are available on the integrated screen of the sensor straight after the measurement process. The big brother of CALIPRI Prime, the multifunctional CALIPRI C40 measurement system, received an upgrade for the InnoTrans, too. Cable-less and ergonomically improved, the new sensor can be applied to a variety of measurement tasks in the wheel-rail system.
Nokia: Integrated LTE network sufficient for communications on railway systems
Nokia and RATP (Régie autonome des transports Parisiens) have conducted practical tests proving that an integrated LTE network is sufficient for the communications needed for operating a railway system. Instead of the hitherto employed range of different systems, including digital radio, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi communications, the Paris Metro Line 14, a fully automated line which meets all the RATP safety requirements, was operated using an LTE network. In addition to simulating train operations the test included video transmissions from trains and platforms, operator voice communications, multimedia information for passengers in trains and on platforms as well as vehicle monitoring for maintenance purposes. These practical tests showed that, using a single communications system such as LTE, it is possible to run the necessary applications as well as mobile internet for passengers.
NORIS Group: Smart concept for wireless measuring of moving parts
NORIS has designed a wireless sensor system that uses an independent, passive induction transponder without an external power source. The transponder derives energy from electromagnetic induction and conducts wireless measurements. At regular intervals it both stores and transmits data to a receiver. Measurements are obtained on temperature, acceleration, as well as from pressure sensor components and combined sensors. This function is ideal for monitoring the condition of a device. Typical applications are measuring the temperature of big end and crankshaft bearings, crankshaft whip and the rotor temperature on an electromotor. NORIS will be exhibiting its smart concept to an international audience of experts for the very first time at InnoTrans 2016 in hall 6.2.
Pirtek Deutschland: The first safety glove to protect against high pressure fluid spray
Pirtek, which provides a nationwide mobile hydraulic hose service, has developed a safety product which is a world first: the “Pirtek Fluid Power Glove 4041 P”. In addition to standard functions it also protects against hazardous hydraulic fluids sprayed at high pressure, at up to 700 bar. However, the glove is still flexible as well as being comfortable and easy to wear. Most gloves that are currently available only protect against cuts and punctures, which, although relatively common in everyday working situations, tend not to be too serious. However, it is quite a different matter with injuries caused by oil or fluids sprayed at high pressure, as a result of tiny holes or cracks in hydraulic hoses. These generally produce a fine jet of fluid at high pressure. Although such injuries are relatively rare, they can be extremely dangerous and as a rule result in amputation of the affected extremities, and can even be fatal.
Plasser & Theurer Export: Tamping unit with hybrid drive system
A framework agreement has been signed to supply DB AG with maintenance vehicles which meet a uniform design concept and satisfy high quality criteria. The TIF tunnel inspection vehicle is the latest addition to the new Plasser & Theurer fleet programme and demonstrates the company’s outstanding manufacturing quality. On show at InnoTrans for the first time, the "Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic E3" travels and operates with the new hybrid drive car. E3 stands for Economic - Ecological - Ergonomic. The two machines can be seen on the Outdoor Display on booths T8/45 and T9/44. In addition to the newly developed universal tamping unit for tracks and points, this exhibitor is also presenting its "smart machine". The diverse range of tamping machines provides the right unit for every application and for different performance categories. PLR Prüftechnik Linke & Rühe: Surface testing on rails after they have been laid
"WPG NT-8M" from PLR Prüftechnik Linke & Rühe GmbH uses eddy current testing to examine the surface condition of both rails simultaneously in order to identify any head checks. Establishing the depth of the damage enables rail processing to be controlled with greater efficiency, and a subsequent assessment of the quality of the work can then be made. Among the advanced features of the tried and tested WPG NT system are the adherence to the clearance profile and free movement of the points, providing a seamless examination of the section under examination. The springs installed in the device serve to maintain the tension in the points mechanism as well as ensuring the necessary compensation of the gauge tolerance and excellent guidance of the sensor mounting on the track and around the points. Projektron: Professional tools for projects and companies
Projektron GmbH is presenting the current release of its web-based project management software “Projektron BCS” at InnoTrans from 20 to 23 September 2016 in Berlin. It can be used to prepare, plan, implement and evaluate projects, and subsequently to prepare the accounts. Projektron BCS cuts costs, helps to adhere to deadlines and improves the efficiency of projects, because this solution combines professional tools for projects and companies within a single software: project management, customer management (CRM), time and attendance recording, support systems and much more besides. This exhibitor emphasizes that Projektron BCS epitomizes quality, efficiency and transparency in projects and companies. Throughout Europe more than 550 customers are already deploying this Berlin company’s web-based software solution. A staff of over 90 at four locations in Germany are available to provide customer services and to ensure the continuing development of this software.
PROKOP RAIL: Sound-absorbent track elements featuring water retention
At InnoTrans PROKOP RAIL will be exhibiting its silent, green BRENS® ABSORBER track for use on urban, regional and tram lines for the first time on the world stage. The track features sound-absorbent elements with a water-retention function and low acoustic barriers as well as vegetation cover for keeping out water. Sealed track surfaces of the type mainly used on urban railways and tram lines significantly aid BRENS® ABSORBER’s high water retention capabilities. The system can retain up to 100 per cent of immediate rainfall and up to 80 per cent of prolonged precipitation. The absorber elements positively influence the flow of track rainwater and its release into the track drainage system.
PROSE: Brake testing that is automatically documented and replicable
"BrakePASS" from PROSE is making its world debut at InnoTrans 2016 and aims to set new standards for the automated documentation of brake testing. This exhibitor has now satisfied a long term requirement of European railways, because this system enables the braking tests for loco-hauled trains with a variety of different rolling stock combinations to be documented automatically and in a replicable way, thereby improving safety and efficiency. In order to conduct brake tests the BrakePASS test probe is placed on the coupling for the main air line at the end of the train, remaining on the train for the duration of the test. The built-in pressure sensor registers the pressure in the brake line. Another component of the system is the BrakePASS app, which communicates directly with the test probe. On completion of the braking tests the data obtained is evaluated, displayed on a smartphone, and stored on a database.
PSI Transcom: Efficiently regulating complex processes
Using the slogan "Efficiently regulating complex processes" the display by PSI Transcom at InnoTrans features the "PSItraffic/ZMS" train management system that is being deployed on regional services between Bern and Solothurn. The contract for this project was signed during a ceremony at InnoTrans 2014. The system is now being put into practice, ensuring that, in future, RBS can guarantee reliable, uninterrupted and efficient train operations. PSItraffic/ZMS continuously determines the current operating status, rolling stock locations, breakdowns, irregularities and conflicts. An integrated fault management system and extensive dispatching functions provide a constant guarantee that trains can operate on schedule. The route setting and management system, an integral part of PSItraffic, informs the signal boxes about the train routes, there ensuring that trains can be operated with the requisite safety. All of the data collated by the system forms the basis for supplying passengers with up to date information.
PTV Planung Transport Verkehr: Strategic public transport planning
The display by PTV Group at InnoTrans 2016 features the latest functions offered by its traffic software. These include multimodal modelling using sharing services, with the aid of the transport flow modelling tool "PTV Visum", and improvements in the microscopic sector with "PTV Vissim" and "PTV Viswalk". The range is completed by "PTV Optima" for utilising transport data in a real time environment. In all of these products input data from all standard systems can be imported via interfaces. This applies, for example, to street network data, information from automated passenger counting systems (APC) and passenger surveys. As the exhibitor explains, the transport planning software offers the ideal combination of geographical information systems (GIS) and key functionalities for planning networks and capacity.

Pypun-KD is a professional consultancy operating on the global stage with long experience in railway projects. It represents the eighth generation of the system, which for more than 28 years has been protecting extremely heavy axle loads around the world. RTI will be showcasing the latest in Surface Defect Detection Technology – SurfaceMap™ along with the newly released Infrastructure Database – SmartMaps. Railcare Export: Vacuum suction machine for complex, intricate work
The "Railvac™ 16000" is a vacuum pump operated suction machine for the difficult work involved in excavating track beds, where no other method is efficient. The driverless suction machine is fitted with two 250 kW diesel engines which each operated a vacuum pump. Via a hose, the 90 m/s airflow transports extracted earth to a 25 m³ container. An experienced operator can on average fill the 25 m³ container to capacity within an hour. In fact, even 40 m³/h is possible. This method avoids interfering with infrastructures, damaging cables or installed equipment. Some 50 units are currently operating in Scandinavia, the UK, Russia, Ukraine and the USA. Railcare has now also added innovative snow removal equipment to its range of products.
Raimondi: Tapered areas of trains can also be easily reached
The Italian company Raimondi specializes in industrial washing installations, many of which have already been constructed for use with railway, underground and light rail trains, in Italy in particular but also in many other countries. Following extensive functional testing a new washing brush that can be rotated by 180 degrees is being shown at InnoTrans 2016 by this exhibitor from Desenzano del Garda. It occupies less space in the washing unit, enabling the entire installation to be reduced in length and made more compact. The rotation of the arm carrying the brush is generated by a geared motor driven by an inverter. The swivelling brush also enables the tapered areas of the train to be easily accessed, thereby ensuring more precise cleaning of all the external surfaces. The 180 degree brush station all makes it possible to wash the train in both directions.
RECOM Power: Wide input voltage range and outstanding efficiency
The RP20-FR range of insulated 20 W DC/DC converters has been designed by RECOM specifically for railway applications, but they are also ideal for industrial and telecommunications use. The compact 2“ x 1“ modules feature a wide 4:1 input voltage range of 9 to 36 V, 18 to 75 V and 43 to 160 V, thereby covering all the on-board battery power supplies including the required ±40 per cent tolerance margin listed in the relevant standard. In addition to versions with 3.3, 5, 12 and 15 V single outputs, dual versions are also available, with ±12 and ±15 V. The control pin logistics can be selected either as positive or negative. The converters have an efficiency of 89 per cent and feature a wide Tx operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C (HC version). Cooling is achieved by natural convection but, if required for a particular application, the modules can also be supplied with a pre-assembled heat sink.
REHAU: Complete systems for railway construction
REHAU is presenting the latest infrastructural solutions at InnoTrans 2016. For many year’s this exhibitor’s systems and components, made with polymers and FRP materials, have occupied an important place in the "3rd Rail" sector, Whether as coverings or mountings for conductor rails, or as special components or aluminium-steel compound conductor rails, REHAU can offer its customers and partners infrastructural solutions that are ideally designed for the task and to accurately meet customer requirements. These energy-efficient solutions have already proved their effectiveness all over the world and can be deployed without difficulty even under the most demanding climatic conditions. In addition to its conductor rail systems this company is also presenting its "RAUDRIL Rail PP" high-load subsoil drainage system for removing water from low-lying areas and tunnels. The pipes and shafts comply with the new Deutsche Bahn AG standard. RAUDRIL Rail PP SN 16 has also been certified by the German Federal Railway Authority and can be deployed within the internal pressure range of railway operating loads.
RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems: Effective measurement rate of up to two million readings
The VMX-1HA Mobile Mapping System from RIEGL is the new LiDAR system solution for monitoring railway lines and measuring railway infrastructure. With a maximum effective rate of two million measurements and up to 500 scan lines per second it enables measurements to be conducted along an entire railway line at platform speeds of up to 130 km/h, supplying a dense scatter diagram comprising billions of individual readings. At the same time the optional camera system also enables the relevant geo-referenced image data to be recorded. The efficiency of this system means that data can be recorded within a very short time, so that scheduled railway services are not affected. Interfaces to third party rail processing software packages form the basis for a railway-specific evaluation of laser scanning data, for example for the track axis-based analysis of infrastructure and target-performance comparisons for quality control purposes.
ROBEL Bahnbaumaschinen: Precision fastening machines and a tailor-made transport system
At this year’s InnoTrans the emphasis of ROBEL handheld machines and devices is on precision bolt fastening. Key products include the brand new "30.73" fastening machine which ROBEL, a long-established company from Freilassing, will be exhibiting for the first time to an international audience of experts on the Outdoor Display (booth O/598). Next door, on booths 47 to 49 on the track section T10, this exhibitor’s new transport vehicles, made for Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB), will also be making their world debut in front of trade visitors. The line-up of transport vehicles, manufactured to specifications for the Cologne public transport system, includes a "54.17 track vehicle", a "55.70 ballast cart" and a "55.70 low-floor vehicle". The system was commissioned at InnoTrans 2014 and is due to enter service with KVB this year.

Rolen Technologies & Products: Water recycling for train lavatories and a modular solution for ceilings
At InnoTrans 2016 the patented greywater recycling system for train lavatories from ROLEN Technologies & Products will be making its first appearance on the world stage. This makes its possible to reduce water consumption, the size of water tanks and overall train weight. Using this new system water from the washing basin can be recycled for flushing the lavatory, which saves up to 0.4 litres of water every flush. Filtering and self-cleaning are incorporated. Another product from this company making its world debut at the fair is the ICD. This modular solution for ceilings combines several functions and elements as well as air ducts in a single unit. ICD helps train manufacturers to scale down the number of individual components, to reduce weight, cost and the time spent on installing systems. ICD is the result of a collaboration involving development work by ROLEN Technologies & Products and manufacturing support by the Wuxi Jinxin Group. The ICD ceiling includes all the necessary ceiling elements and air ducts.
ROSE Systemtechnik: EN 45545 compliant plastic housing
With the introduction of EN 45545 in April 2016 rail vehicle materials and components are now subject to Europe-wide and uniform fire safety standards. As a long-established rail industry partner and innovative manufacturer Rose Systemtechnik GmbH has introduced plastic housings to its range of products which meet the latest fire safety specifications. The housings consist of specially designed duroplastic polyester which in the event of a fire neither drips nor melts, and emits hardly any fumes. Material tests conducted in a certified testing laboratory produced excellent results with regard to flue gas density, lateral flame propagation and heat dissipation. Stainless steel and aluminium housings (also EN 45545 certified) round off the product line-up of this housing manufacturer which operates on the world stage.
ROSEN Group: Inspection system for rail vehicle wheels
Together with Fraunhofer IZFP ROSEN has developed a new modular system that carries out automatic ultrasonic inspection of rail vehicle wheels during the manufacturing process. Use of robots and the latest testing technology resulted in RAWIS (Railway Wheel Inspection System), an efficient solution enabling the non-destructive inspection of different rail vehicle wheels in various dimensions. The specifications called for an automated inspection system capable of testing wheels measuring 540 to 1,350 mm in diameter as well as the contoured or flat edge of the wheel. RAWIS uses phased array sensors to inspect the rim and hub, while the wheel disc is examined by two conventional UT probes featuring water jet coupling. Robots mounted on several axles are positioned on the inner and outer wheel surfaces respectively for testing. Before the inspection begins a laser sensor detects the wheel disc edge and relays this information to the robot’s control program.
SAB Bröckskes: The highest safety standards for cabling
Category 5, 6 and 7 Ethernet cables from SAB Bröckskes have proved their effectiveness many thousands of times under harsh environmental conditions. In accordance with current and future development in automation in the rail industry, as well as the steadily increasing data volumes and rates, this exhibitor can now supply its new rail FRNC cables, compliant with DIN EN 45545-2, specifically for the rail industry. Conforming to the latest CATLine CAT 5e R, CAT 6A R and CAT 7A R standards, the new cable type completes the product range from this cable specialist and ensures that cabling satisfies the highest current safety demands in the rail industry. The new cable types can be used for ethernet or gigabit ethernet crosslinking in rail vehicles, for example in passenger information systems, monitoring systems or E-ticketing systems.
SABA Dinxperlo: Excellent adhesion and elasticity even under extreme conditions
A new sealant and adhesive for fire safety is being exhibited by SABA at InnoTrans: "Sabatack® 750 FS" (Fire Safety). It has been developed for use in the construction of railway rolling stock, where the industrial standard EN 45545-2 is of particular importance. With its unique properties this MS polymer product complies with the mandatory European standard EN 45545-2, which comes into force in 2018. It has many uses and can withstand even extreme conditions. Sabatack® 750 FS is suitable for all adhesive and sealing applications requiring elasticity, such as interior trim, floor and roof structures, window installation and ventilation units. The new adhesive and sealant has been tested and certified for both interior and exterior use (R 22 und R 23): oxygen index, smoke density and toxicity. Sabatack® 750 FS also retains its outstanding strength and elasticity under extreme climatic conditions such as very high or very low temperatures.
SAVVY® Telematic Systems: High productivity with hazardous goods
The transport, trans-shipment and storage of hazardous goods imposes high demands on the quality and safety of the systems used. At InnoTrans 2016 the Swiss company SAVVY® Telematic Systems is presenting its new telematics unit “CargoTrac-ExR”, which is making its world debut. It has been approved for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas and is suitable for use with containers, IBCs and rail freight cars. In addition to its many connectors, one particularly innovative feature of CargoTrac-ExR is its use of ZigBee radio data for wireless connection to external sensors. The scalable telematics solution from SAVVY® is based on CargoTrac-ExR and enables companies engaged in hazardous goods logistics to digitally integrate, monitor and flexibly manage their business processes more effectively. This ensures outstanding productivity during transport, trans-shipment and storage.
Schaeffler Technologies: Electronic monitoring of wheelset bearings and rail vehicle powertrains
Schaeffler is exhibiting its Condition Monitoring System (CMS) which electronically monitors the bogies on passenger trains. Based on an analysis of this data, increasing the average speeds, vehicle mileage and extending maintenance intervals on future train generations will be possible as well as improving operational safety. Specially designed sensors for use on trains measure structure-borne sound, temperature and wheelset bearing revolutions. A motorised bogie is also employed to monitor vibrations on the powertrain and transmission. The data collected by CMS is analysed either locally or in the Schaeffler cloud and displayed as plain text. The operator or maintenance company is connected to the cloud and via internet can monitor the condition of individual wheelset bearings or entire wheelsets and bogies from anywhere in the world.
Schliess- und Sicherungssysteme GmbH: Full protection against microbes
Grab rails represent a major hazard where microbes are concerned. At this year’s InnoTrans, for the first time, Schliess- und Sicherungssysteme GmbH will be exhibiting a product for interiors that employs an anti-microbial powder coating developed in collaboration with KABE Farben to an international audience of experts. The antimicrobial coating developed by KABE delivers full protection. It satisfies the high demands of the rail vehicle industry in terms of quality and visual appeal and offers comprehensive protection as far as hygiene and corrosion are concerned. Field trials of KABE powder coating have already been conducted at the University Hospital of Giessen / Marburg. In eastern Europe and the US this market has expanded significantly, while in central Europe growth remains moderate. That is something that S&S and KABE Farben aim to change.
Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik: Rapid-charging and effective bearing protection
Schunk Carbon Technology is presenting its innovative rapid charging system for battery-powered vehicles at InnoTrans 2016. The ”SLS 101“ charging pantograph and the ”SLS 201“ inverted charging system with system-specific interfaces can be used to charge battery-powered buses, trams or specialised utility vehicles in seconds at the stops or in the depot, providing a cost-effective balance between the battery size, passenger load and operating range. This company, which creates specialist solutions in the field of carbon and ceramic technology, is displaying its new shaft grounding system on its booth in hall 9 at InnoTrans. This effectively protects bearings against stray current in the motor shaft and is a reliable method of avoiding irreparable bearing damage and unscheduled maintenance calls for rail vehicles.
SCIF: Special rail vehicles for use in Africa and Europe
SCIF, Société Chérifienne de matériel Industriel et "Ferroviaire", can be found in hall 3.2 at InnoTrans 2016, where it is exhibiting various examples of new rolling stock for passenger and freight services. These have been developed and manufactured by this Moroccan company specifically for customers in Africa and in Europe. They include carriages for Morocco, special freight cars for Tunisia, and electric locomotives for Poland. The SCIF company was founded in 1946 and since then has gained extensive experience in many different sectors of the rail industry. These include electric locomotives, as well as the renovation and manufacture of freight cars and passenger carriages. Based in Casablanca, this exhibitor also develops, designs and manufactures all kinds of bogies, including types Y32, Y27 and Y25.
Selectrail: Combining Q-Signal and digital technology
Improvements in safety, reliability and time-saving: these are the outstanding features of SELECTiQ. As the exhibitor points out, the Selectrail team has developed the world's first digital signalling relay. With this advance the company is expanding the boundaries of railway technology even further, and SELECTiQ has been designed to meet the needs of the market in Australia and around the world. The developers describe it as a unique innovation that combines traditional Q signalling technology with increased confidence in digital products, and provides the market with an improved signalling relay. SELECTiQ supplies the best technology in this field and satisfies the latest safety requirements. This particular innovation replaces the customary electromechanical systems used in existing technology, and its digital system enables it to function longer and with greater precision and consistency.
SelectraVision: Wheel profile measurements at 150 kph
Wheels have to be checked at regular intervals to ensure passenger safety and prevent train derailments. Existing systems generally measure the wheel profile on a stationary wheel or at a speed of 30 kph. The new “WHEELcheck System” from SelectraVision can measure wheel profiles at high speeds of up to 150 km/h, using laser technology and high-speed cameras. Each measurement checks the wheels for wear, and also measures the diameter and the wheel tread profile parameters. An alarm is immediately triggered if problems with the wheels are detected. All the recorded data is stored in a database, and a web user interface makes it available to multiple users. Overlapping with the standard reference profile, the actual profile of each wheel is graphically displayed via the user interface, together with the wear on the wheel and the measured parameters of the wheel tread profile.
Shanghai Fuxin Intelligent Transportation Solutions: Customized communication and signalling control systems
Shanghai Fuxin Intelligent Transportation Solutions Co., Ltd., (FITSCO) is also known by its previous name of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell TSD. This Chinese company supplies complete, customized communication and signalling control systems for urban rail transit systems such as metro, tram, City Express, monorail and APM (automated people mover). The display by FITSCO at InnoTrans 2016 demonstrates new technology as interconnected systems, network operation and fully automated operation. The display features the following solutions and systems: JeRail CBTC, a signalling control system for use in urban rail transit services, as well as a solution for the integration of a communication system for all kinds of rail transport systems in the urban rail transit sector, and JeTram, a modern signalling and communication system solution for trams.
Shenzhen SED Wireless Communication Technology: New smartphone supports wireless broadband and GSM-R
According to the exhibitor, the Chinese tech company Shenzhen SED Wireless Communication Technology (SED Wireless) is a leading supplier of GSM-R terminals. At InnoTrans 2016 the company will be exhibiting its new "SED GPH-650R" GSM-R smartphone on its display in hall 7.1b for the first time. The SED GPH-650R is a new and innovative UIC-compliant GSM-R handheld device which according to the exhibitor is the first GSM-R Smartphone to have passed EIRENE tests. This new product supports dual mode GSM-R / LTE as well as various railway communications including VGCS and VBS. One particular advantage for rail passengers is that it supports wireless broadband as well as wireless GSM-R services.
Siemens: Regional and commuter train platform for mass transit systems
Mireo, the new regional and commuter train platform made by Siemens, was specifically designed to meet ever-growing transport demands and satisfies increasing requirements for performance, profitability, eco-compatibility, punctuality, safety and customer friendliness. The vehicle was designed as a scalable articulated train featuring trailing bogies with inside bearings. Due to its lightweight construction, energy-efficient components and intelligent on-board power management system energy consumption is reduced by 25 per cent. A driver assistance system also saves a further 30 per cent. 95 per cent of parts can be recycled. Various carriage lengths, train configurations, top speeds and entry heights can be specified. On- board internet, passenger assistance and information systems, onboard entertainment and CCTV are all integral to the Mireo concept.
SIGNON: Statistical evaluation of passenger numbers
Evaluation and Passenger Projection – SIGNON EPPsta statistically projects passenger numbers in order to give a reliable assessment of overall figures. This tool makes use of and validates information from various data collection systems (vehicle sensors) and makes it possible to conduct individual analyses, to freely configure Pivot evaluations and to easily export the data to MS Excel. A chart display provides a perfect graphic illustration of the results. The data obtained can be used to monitor company goals or distribute the individual revenues of a group. Data collection parameters can also be taken into account and can be continuously monitored by SIGNON EPPsta. The exhibitor gives users a choice between a cloud solution (customers pay for the service, not software) and a conventional software purchase complete with an on-site installation.
Sika Deutschland: Fire-retardant sealant that conforms to DIN 45545
With its new "Sikaflex-221" FR fire-retardant polyethylene sealant Sika is helping the rail industry to comply with the fire safety standard DIN 45545. This high quality product conforms to DIN 45545, meeting the requirements R22 / R23 and can be deployed in categories HL1 and HL2. Sikaflex-221 FR is ideal as a sealant for interior use on rail vehicles, where flame-retardant properties are specified. The high quality single component product provides an elastic and lasting seal. Sikaflex-221 FR thereby provides reliable protection for important electronic wiring that is installed underfloor or behind panels in the interiors of vehicles. It also offers a wide spectrum of adhesive properties. It is suitable for adhesion to metals, primers and topcoats (2-component systems), ceramic materials and plastics. Sikaflex-221 FR is also very easy to work with.
Simpleway Europe: Passenger information platform
Simpleway Europe is a global provider of passenger information systems for railways, airports, ports and public transport such as underground and tram systems, as well as buses. The company’s core product is a unified passenger communication platform. This platform, for supplying passengers with information, takes user information from operators, as well as information from real-time data feeds and distributes it directly to passengers, either visually (display, e.g. LED panels) and / or acoustically (spoken announcements), as well as through mobile channels and social networks (cellphone apps, SMS, emails). An efficient business rules engine enables transport operators to structure passenger information themselves to cope with all conceivable situations, such as delays, cancellations or emergencies. Currently this system supports 30 languages and can also be used for advertising.
Škoda Transportation: Fully air-conditioned vehicle with visual information system
The new “ForCity Plus” tram from Škoda Transportation has a capacity of 345 (including 69 seats). The comfortable and fully air-conditioned vehicles are equipped with a visual information system, which also includes devices to enable blind passengers to communicate with the driver. A tilting platform facilitates entry and exit for passengers with restricted mobility. A system with six internal and six external cameras is installed to ensure passenger safety. The vehicles have a gauge of 1,000 mm and comprise five sections, and the first and last bogies are fully pivoting. In addition to the “ForCity Plus” tram this exhibitor is using InnoTrans 2016 for the international debut of its new double-deck multiple unit for push-pull operation by DB Regio, on the route Nuremberg - Ingolstadt – Munich in Bavaria.
Smith’s Connectors: Individual configurations with just a few basic components
The display by Smiths Connectors at InnoTrans 2016 features the expanded range of transformers for power distribution for trains, for coach-to-coach connections and for bogies. The modular design enables individual configurations to be created using only a few basic components. Based on a building-block principle the high power connectors are available in 1 to 4 pole versions with up to 700 A per contact with a voltage rating of 3,600 V. The materials used comply with EN 45545. Cables with connection cross sections of 25 to 350 mm² can be connected to the flexibly configurable high power connectors. One particular advantage is that the plug-in connectors can be installed in situ without the need for any special tools. This helps to reduce the logistical and maintenance costs to a minimum.
Solaris Bus & Coach: High passenger volume bi-directional vehicle
The "Solaris Tramino Olsztyn" is 29.3 m long and 2.5 m wide. Measuring 3.8 m in height it seats 43 passengers and total capacity is in excess of 200. This was achieved with dual (2+2) seats installed on either side of the spacious interior. The bi-directional vehicle is capable of handling high passenger numbers and accordingly is equipped with six 1,300 mm wide double doors on both sides, which provide rapid and easy access to a low-level floor spanning the length of the vehicle. Each of the three vehicle compartments is mounted on its own chassis, which runs on a standard 1,435 mm track gauge, thereby achieving optimum weight distribution. The Tramino Olsztyn is equipped with several innovative features, one of which is a self-levelling system that compensates for varying loads and degrees of wheel rim wear.
SPEAR Consultancy: Procurement strategy and safety certification
SPEAR Consultancy Limited (SPEARCL) is exhibiting at InnoTrans for the first time. After the successful delivery of a number of railway projects this consultancy was set up in March 2004 by Siddharth Patel. SPEARCL extends an invitation to its exhibition booth to discuss new and innovative procurement strategy ideas and to obtain advice from this independent safety assessor about safety certification in accordance with CENELEC standards such as EN50126 and EN50128. This exhibitor specializes in providing functional expert services in areas such as project, financial, commercial and contract management, safety system audits, risk management, technical system audits, system safety reviews in accordance with CENELEC standards and expert advice about rail systems including signalling and train control.
SPITZKE: Low-noise safety system for large, rail-mounted construction machinery
The new safety system for railway construction sites is a combination of the existing Fixed Barrier (FB) and Automatic Track Warning System (ATWS). It has been developed jointly by the SPITZKE subsidiary WSO WARNSYSTEME UND SICHERUNGSTECHNISCHE ORGANISATION FAHRWEG GmbH and Zöllner Signal GmbH and is being presented to the world’s experts for the first time at InnoTrans 2016. Increasing public sensitivity to noise emphasises the importance of this particular development. Until now conventional automatic warning systems have been erected along the entire length of the section of track under construction, at 30 m intervals, and the warning signals are also sounded at those sections where no work is being carried out. The new FATWS system keeps noise levels to the necessary minimum but without compromising safety.
SSC Swiss Shielding Corporation: PE foam with closed cell structure
As a long-established partner of the rail vehicle manufacturing industry SSC AG has developed "SSC-Q1", a new and innovative insulation material. As a basic material, one advantage of this lightweight PE foam is its closed cell structure and non-hygroscopic properties. This means that it retains its thermal and acoustic characteristics throughout a rail vehicle’s lifespan. By combining products in an intelligent way SSC insulation materials can be used to fulfil any thermal and acoustic project specifications. This material meets EN45545 HL2 fire safety specifications without an additional aluminium protective surface and can be used to insulate vehicle floors and ceilings. In addition to SSC-Q1 the SSC insulation system features other products as well as various interior and installation options.
Stabirail: Milling track beds with millimeter accuracy
Stabirail has developed a unique method of milling concrete blocks in tunnels and railway stations, enabling the rails to be laid directly and accurately on the concrete. This technology is a faster and more efficient means of slab track construction, using three machines consecutively. In the initial stage a concrete milling machine cuts the track bed out of concrete with millimetre accuracy. The entire machine is controlled by a 3D system and is capable of working on parabolic curves and transitional slopes. The second machine is the drilling train, which makes holes in the concrete bed using a diamond core drill. These holes are subsequently used to anchor the track. The machine operates completely autonomously, being equipped with a generator and a water tank. The final train is the anchoring train, consisting of an anchoring unit and a driving unit, and this can also operate autonomously.
STADLER: Electric multi-system multiple unit for improved travel comfort
The highlight of the display by Stadler at InnoTrans is the presentation of the world's first series production, low-floor, high speed multiple unit. It has been built for Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), which ordered eleven-car EC250 high speed trains from Stadler in October 2014. The electric multi-system multiple unit can reach speeds of up to 155 mph and have been granted TSI high speed certification. Step-free low floor access, air conditioned passenger compartments, multi-purpose and bicycle compartments and the latest gender-separate WC systems, which are user-friendly for families, senior citizens and people with limited mobility, ensure a comfortable travel experience. Other innovations include the FLIRT for the Netherlands, the EURODUAL locomotive for the United Kingdom, the VARIOBAHN for Aarhus/Denmark, the CITYLINK tram-train for Chemnitz/Germany and sleeping cars for Azerbaijan. Stadler is also presenting a 1:25 scale model of a design for the Berlin S-Bahn (light rail) for the first time.

STEVO Electric: Portable testing device for electronic protection relays
At InnoTrans 2016 STEVO Electric will be exhibiting its innovative BALTO Controller, a portable testing device for electronic protection relays, for the first time. This testing equipment can be used to check that protection relays from Siemens, Secheron, Rwaytech and other manufacturers are in good working order. The device’s touch screen interface provides users with a graphic display of all the test data. The output voltage is 60 mV to 10 V. In order to test specific protection functions users can define their own wave shapes, save these and quickly retrieve them whenever needed. The system stores test results which can be copied via USB or transferred via ethernet. The BALTO controller can be used as a standalone or in combination with other devices from the STEVO Electric BALTO range.
STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions: One-stop shop for an extensive range of services
The STRABAG group has combined the services provided by its fully owned subsidiaries Center Communication Systems GmbH (CCS) and STRABAG Anlagentechnik GmbH (SAT) within a single company. As a provider of comprehensive, smart, infrastructural solutions, the company now trading under the name STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions GmbH can offer an even wider range of services from a single source, from railway radio communications, video monitoring and passenger information systems to control centre technology, as well as transport and tunnel systems. STRABAG Rail: Elastic rail mounting system for light rail systems and trams
RAILFLEX from STRABAG Rail is a continuous, elastic rail mounting for use with light rail systems and trams. It can be used with all rail profiles for flat bottomed and grooved rails as well as with the associated points. These attachments are used to bind the rail to an existing concrete slab with cast under-rail mounting, and provide a continuous mounting. Tested in accordance with DIN 45673-8, the RAILFLEX system simplifies assembly on a RAILFLEX mounting point. This can be used in track assembly by means of height-adjustable feet, which facilitate adjustments to the gradient and reduce the amount of cast under-rail support that is needed. This system is compatible not only with the various materials used to seal the surface, such as asphalt, concrete and permeable paving, but also with grass.
Suzhou Donon Carbon Ware: Good conductivity, lightweight and durable
Suzhou Donon Carbon Ware focuses on the research, development and production of a variety of carbon products for the automotive industry and the rail sector. At InnoTrans the company, which was established in 1988, will be exhibiting mainly carbon collector strips and carbon brushes. The collector strips are used on current collectors for overhead lines and third rails on underground and light rail transport systems. They feature good electrical conductivity and are lightweight and durable. The strips are easy to replace. Donon also manufactures a wide range of carbon brushes for locomotives and train earthing systems which feature high wear resistance, good commutation and produce minimum sparks. They can also be used in adverse weather conditions. The latest range of carbon collector strips and carbon brushes will be making their world debut at InnoTrans 2016.
TAF mobile: The green, paperless public transport stop
Based in Jena, this IT specialist for the public transport sector, TAF mobile GmbH, has produced a concept for a “green, paperless stop” for transport companies, together with a range of specialized products. “Green” signifies environmental awareness and “paperless” refers to digital information. In this new development the flexPaper® solar display represents an innovative model of stand-alone, digital equipment for public transport stops. It is augmented by large indoor and outdoor screens (DFI departure monitors). For passenger shelters or transport information portals this exhibitor recommends interactive touch displays. Ticket sales and travel information can be displayed using the latest apps, online shop systems, mobile web facilities and widgets for desktop computers or smartphones. The easy.GO mobile service is an application from TAF that provides the only mobile phone-based payment system for purchasing tickets on the German market, according to the exhibitor.
Tamrotor: CTN2 compressors for easy, universal application
With the introduction of its smallest model, the CTN2, Gardner Denver has again expanded its CT range of self-contained mobile compressors. The new CTN2 compressor unit is based on the new EN2 air end. In contrast to the larger CT range, the traditional Tempest design has been dispensed with for these models. The reduced weight of the entire unit offers significant advantages for mobile use. Like all the other CT models, CTN2 compressors are also available with a choice of either electrical or hydraulic drives. The electric motors are wide voltage motors, enabling CTN2 compressors to be easily used throughout the world. With an output of 5.5 kW at 7 bar compressed air at 0.75m³/min can be achieved. With a 7.5-kW motor this increases to 1.05 m³/min, and with the option of a hydraulic drive, 1.05 m³/min can also be achieved.
TE Connectivity Germany: Improved aerodynamics
Roofline systems installed on the roofs of electric locomotives transmit electrical power at high voltage from the catenary line to the traction transformer, and include components such as pantographs, surge arrestors, circuit breakers, cables, insulated bushings and metering transformers. Their reliability can be reduced by humidity, dirt and low pressure conditions. TE has developed a new, modular approach to roofline systems, enabling rolling stock manufacturers to use a single design for all operating environments. This product, which is making its international debut, combines reliable operation with a lower profile and reduced weight, can replace individually designed subsystems, and thereby helps to limit the overall height of double-decker rolling stock. However, its most important feature is that this new product improves the aerodynamic performance.
Technical University Wildau: Logistics project features electro-mobility
At InnoTrans 2016 Technical University Wildau will be presenting its "KV-E Chain" project. Its main aim is to demonstrate a fully electro-powered supply chain using various transport modes. Four partners are working on this project. Besides TH Wildau they include BEHALA, DHL and Berliner Energie Agentur. The project employed the first pre-production Terberg YT202EV vehicle which was modified to the necessary specifications. The technical college will also be highlighting its DISBUS project, an innovative scheduling and management software for coach terminals and bays, which was developed in cooperation with BLIC-Berlin, Fluidtime-Wien and Chaps-Brünn. By using real time information on arrivals DISBUS can automatically optimise and schedule coach bay occupancy. This maximises the use of available resources and provides better passenger information for displays and apps.
technotrans: Battery cooler as a standard unit with railway certification
The display by technotrans AG in hall 14.1 at InnoTrans 2016 features mobile and stationary cooling systems for batteries, converters and charging points. This medium-sized company from Sassenberg in Westphalia successfully designs products to meet the needs of specific projects, for mobile energy storage systems such as lithium-ion batteries and super- or ultracaps. In addition battery coolers are now supplied as certified standard units, and wide-ranging railway certification is also available. Their modular design offers a wide range of performance options and makes them suitable for numerous applications. The company has an extensive portfolio of stationary heat exchangers for use with charging points and converters in various performance categories. Operating from 21 locations and with a workforce of some 810, technotrans can supply global turn-key installations, including pipeline construction and after-sales services, and also with remote control if required.
Telemecanique Sensors: OsiSense XMLP – small, compact and robust
Use of the "OsiSense XMLP" pressure transmitter from Telemecanique Sensors enables small industrial machines to be constructed with pressure ranges of between minus 1 and 600 bar. In addition the "XMLP010BD21V" 10 bar sensor, part of this series, has been certified for railway use. With its small dimensions the design of machinery for industrial facilities can be optimised and the transmitter is also easier to install. It also ensures simplified assembly, and is compatible with the "OsiSense ZMLP". Its high quality case, made of 304 stainless steel, provides protection in corrosive environments. The specialised design of this sensor makes it particularly resistant to excess pressure, thereby promising a long working life. The robust and compact sensor has received IP69K certification and is provided with a number of analogue outputs. Telemecanique Sensors, part of the Schneider Electric group, offers an extensive range of products, including more than 25,000 different types of sensor.
Televic Rail: Always keeping passengers well informed
The Belgian company is presenting a world first at InnoTrans 2016: a real time passenger information system that is supplied from various sources. These can be real time operating schedules, information about connections to other transport services, weather updates and other sources. The system filters data according to context and relevance, and makes it available on board, either as audio or visual content for all types of on-board displays, screens or other playback devices. The multi-source and real time system from Televic Rail only supplies the relevant data and guarantees that no obsolete information is displayed on on-board screens. The system’s modularity allows for quick and flexible adaptations if the data sources change or new data sources are selected.
TRB Lightweight Structures: Composite train doors
The display by TRB Lightweight Structures at InnoTrans 2016 provides the first opportunity to see its innovative lightweight doors for rail vehicles. These are made of lightweight composite materials that conform to rail industry standards. Requiring less maintenance, they help to reduce energy consumption and life cycle costs, and offer an economical solution for OEMs and the operators of rail services. The exhibitor states that it is the leading British manufacturer of train doors and its workforce includes experts in material selection, design, validation and production. Knowledge and experience gained in manufacturing composite materials for the aircraft industry mean that this company is ideally placed to provide robust and cost-efficient lightweight composites for rail vehicles, meeting all of the industry's certification and performance requirements.
Trenew Electronic: DC-DC converter with ultra-wide input range
The insulated 200-W-H80SV series from Delta has been designed for the installation of circuit boards in railway applications. The converter provides an ultra-wide input range from 16.8 to 137.5 V (14.4 V/1 s to 154 VDC/1 s). A single converter can be used for all the various networks on board rail vehicles, from 24 V to 110 VDC, in accordance with EN 50155. Among its advantages are its high power density and very compact dimensions of 63.1 x 60.6 x 12.7 mm. This makes it ideal for use in confined spaces. It has an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius, and a heat sink is available as an optional extra. The typical efficiency is 90.5 per cent. An external hold-up capacitor can be connected to cope with power failures of up to 10 ms. Other standard features include protection against over-voltage, over-temperature and overloading, as well as a remote ON/OFF input.
TRILUX: Outstanding illumination for streets and weather shelters
The surface-mounted TRILUX "815 LED" was designed specifically for weather shelters. LED technology ensures durability and that small and medium-sized spaces are well illuminated. The luminaire’s modular design makes changing the LED and the system’s devices no trouble at all. Innovative technology and ease-of-use are also the main features of the TRILUX "Viatana LED". Its reflector technology reliably provides outstanding and precisely delimited street illumination. Further energy savings can be achieved using switching concepts that reduce output. The modular design of the luminaire and the use of LED modules to Zhaga specifications make it easy to adapt to any future requirements. These two new luminaires are true to the slogan of ’Simplify Your Light’ in every respect.
Trimble: Managing the life cycle of rail transport assets
Informed by years of experience in the industry, the Trimble Railway Asset Solutions group (formerly Nexala) has developed an integrated suite of products specifically addressing the needs of the rail transport sector. Trimble’s rail asset life cycle management products represent software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions that manage the lifecycle of rail transport assets from operation through maintenance and repair. The products being exhibited at the fair allow rail companies to plan for the future, improve operational efficiency, manage service levels and reduce costs while sustaining maximum performance. Customers using Trimble solutions to manage the life cycle of their rail transport assets include South West Trains, Eurostar, SNCF and Irish Rail.
Turbo Power Systems: APS system with new features
According to the exhibitor Turbo Power Systems (TPS) is a railway industry world leader with 40 years of experience in designing energy conversion equipment. The company’s key products include auxiliary power supply (APS) systems, battery chargers as well as compact, lightweight and efficient converters which are used all over the world. For example, TPS designed its APS system for the monorail network in Sao Paulo. Features include a liquid cooling system designed as a "Line Replaceable Unit" (LRU). The lightweight three-phase system and DC conversion circuits were optimised to enable installation in tight spaces. At InnoTrans 2016 Turbo Power Systems will be showcasing the new features of its APS system on its booth in the CityCube Berlin.
TÜV NORD: Testing of Gmeinder locomotives for EU-wide certification
EU-wide certification of the Gmeinder locomotives DE75 BB-H and DE75 BB-D is planned for the end of 2018. Both EU-wide and national certification are dependent on meeting an extensive catalogue of requirements and, as the Notified und Designated Body, TÜV NORD is responsible for ensuring adherence to these specifications. In the European process these consist of the Technical Specifications for Railway Interoperability (TSI). The following TSIs are therefore used as the basis: TSI LOC & PAS, TSI SRT, TSI NOI, TSI ZZS. In this connection an examination is also made of the company's quality management system. The national process also includes all the domestic technical specifications that are not covered by the TSI. As the Assessment Body, TÜV NORD also examines the specifications laid down in the European regulation EG/402/2013, which deals with the evaluation of risk analyses and the compilation of a safety assessment report.
TÜV SÜD Rail: Arc measurement method and IT security for railway installations
In addition to the method for measuring the force of the contact between the current collector and the overhead power line, which is already in use and has been further improved, TÜV SÜD Rail has now developed a second method, which complies with the standard EN 50317. Arc measurement is used to record the duration of arcs with a defined light wave length and intensity. The measurement technology that has been specially developed for this method has now been successfully validated. This has been followed by accreditation of the arc measurement process, which is being shown for the first time at InnoTrans 2016. TÜV SÜD Rail is also one of the first suppliers to offer its services in the field of IT security for electrical signalling systems. Among the standards on which this service is based are IEC 62443-4-1/3-2/3-3 and EN 50159, as well as the pre-standard DIN VDE V 0831-104. In conducting a risk analysis, for example, TÜV SÜD combines the generally valid process with various threat scenarios, damage categories, probability of occurrence and security levels which are specific to the rail sector.

U.P.E.C.: Sealed roller bearings and eco-friendly ventilation system
At InnoTrans the UPEC industrial group is presenting innovative products that have been specially designed for the operating conditions on 1,520 gauge. The second generation of the TBU 1520 HARP and CRU Duplex K2 ranges consists of double-row roller bearings with original internal geometry that have received special heat and mechanical treatment. FST cassette seals are used, and the cassettes are filled with Kluberplex BEM HARP grease. The UPEC industrial group has now also completed the development process and begun mass production of the new ATT HVAC air cycle ventilation system, which incorporates the latest energy-efficiency technology and is 100 per cent eco-friendly. In winter it supplies heating, with a COP value of 3.2 to 4.2 at up to -50 degrees C, and in summer it acts as an air conditioner with a COP value of 1.3 to 1.6. It also provides ventilation with a fresh air supply of up to 100 per cent.
VDL Bus & Coach: Higher passenger capacity and standard current collector option
VDL Citea, an innovative range of electric buses, has even more to offer in 2017. A newly designed roof has resulted in increasing passenger capacity and the standard position for an optional current collector has been moved to the front axle. Improvements have been made throughout to the electrical system, powertrain and air-conditioning, thereby reducing energy consumption. More battery options now exist to suit different mass transit systems. Capacities of between 64 and 240 kWh are sufficient to cover the majority of slow and fast charging operations. In order to improve feedback further remote monitoring options will become available (dashboards), as will data recording, during the first three months of 2017. By focusing on the development of the zero-emissions Citea VDL has created a solid basis for public authorities and operators who put an emphasis on sustainability and public transport.
VERMDOK for Industries: Laser tracking instead of drilling templates
VERMDOK for Industries has developed and tested an innovative new method and product, a laser tracker for rolling stock. This device carries out high-precision work marking drilling holes, bolt holes and joins, and fulfils the precision requirements of the rail vehicle industry. The device positions drilling holes to within a tolerance of 0.5 to 0.1 mm, so that interior equipment can be installed without distortion. The method developed by this exhibitor makes it possible to almost entirely replace drilling templates, which are significantly more expensive, while also improving drilling accuracy. The advantages are easy to see: average processing times are reduced by 25 per cent, 33 per cent fewer staff are required and organising templates is no longer necessary. Use of the laser tracker optimises production processes and the quality of the finished product.
Vigier Rail: Precision-engineered installation of solid track
The world’s longest railway tunnel is open and will begin operating regularly in December 2016. According to the exhibitor, the "Low Vibration Track" (LVT) system made it possible to install the solid track with an unmatched degree of precision. LVT celebrated its debut on the 50 km long "Eurotunnel" and was also employed in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, an engineering milestone. At 57 km in length and with 114 km of track this was Vigier Rail AG’s biggest project to date. Since then the LVT system has been improved in several ways. "LVT S&C" comprises products for points and crossings. "LVT Traffic" features a rescue concept using inflated tyres, while "LVT Panel" system replaces ballast track with solid track. LVT track can sustain train speeds of up to 250 kph.
Vishay Europe Sales: Eco-friendly, extremely reliable and with a long working life
The portfolio of ESTA power capacitors for railway applications from Vishay Intertechnology covers the entire AC range up to 25 kV per unit, and the DC range to 5 kV per unit. These metallised polypropylene film capacitors, which are designed for use with power electronics, are manufactured according to the highest quality standards. The components, which are available either in a rectangular (DCMKP Series) or cylindrical housing (HDMKP Series), are eco-friendly, extremely reliable and are very long-lasting. The power resistors from Vishay MCB & Sfernice are in use in most railway capacitor applications: the C52T, C42T and C38T high energy resistors as precharge resistors and filters, and the RCEC, RCMC and LPS high performance thick-film resistors for snubber, discharge and equalization functions. The display also includes IHLP SMD high current inductors and thyristors for circuit breaker applications.
Vision Systems Automotive: Electronically dimmable railway carriage windows
At InnoTrans 2016 Vision Systems Automotive will be exhibiting its "Acti-Vision Window", an electronically dimmable carriage window featuring an interactive display. This solution lets passengers quickly adjust the amount of light entering a window and thereby limit glare and heat entering the compartment. When the train stops the windows are darkened to maintain a low temperature inside and to reduce air-conditioning consumption. The electronics are fully integrated to reduce downtimes and ensure easy maintenance. Vision Systems will also be exhibiting an entertainment and connectivity system at the fair which provides passengers’ smartphones and tablets with seamless internet access and a wide range of content such as music, films, newspapers, magazines and tourist information.
Visiona Control Industrial: Comprehensive wheel wear inspection
At InnoTrans 2016 Visiona Control Industrial will be exhibiting its new "WheelPro-3D", an evolutionary development of the previous WheelPro-System, for the first time. Boasting seven years of experience in automatic wheel profile measuring systems, Visiona has now developed a completely new concept for inspecting wheels. The WheelPro-3D system is an automatic measuring device that creates a real-time 3D image of an entire wheel to within a tolerance of +/- 0,05 mm and gauges wear for the whole wheel. This makes it possible to measure out-of-roundness of each wheel and detect surface defects such as cracks. At InnoTrans on its display in hall 21 Visiona will also be demonstrating how the WheelPro System can be used to measure wheel profiles at speeds of up to 150 kph.
Voith Turbo: Flexibly usable drive system and hydrodynamic transmission
Voith RailPacks are drive systems for use in single and multi-segment diesel railcars for commuter, regional, national and intercity services. They can be supplied as diesel-mechanical, diesel-hydraulic and diesel-electric versions and with a performance rating of 294 to 735 kW. Their robust design enables them to cope with all kinds of operational and weather conditions and they require very maintenance. Combined with long oil change intervals this ensures continuously low operating costs. Voith is also presenting its S111 turbo transmission at InnoTrans. The effective vibration isolation provided by the hydrodynamic driveline protects engine and drive components. This also ensures jolt-free starting and adaptation to the prevailing driving conditions. Furthermore the speed can be automatically adjusted under load without interrupting the tractive effort.
Vossloh: Extending the life cycle of concrete sleepers
At InnoTrans 2016 Vossloh will be exhibiting the new "Sdü NG / Ss NG" dowel-bolt combination for its fastening systems which was designed to extend the life cycle of concrete sleepers. This dowel is also key to ensuring optimum load distribution. Due to its special shape forces are absorbed mainly vertically, thus reducing the load transferred to the sleeper. The dowel is made from a new, robust and water-resistant type of plastic, the manufacturing of which consumes very little energy. This product will be making its world debut. It can be seen on the booth of Vossloh in hall 26 and rounds off a wide range of cost-efficient systems that feature a high load-bearing capability, optimum soundproofing and are in use all over the world.
Vossloh Kiepe: Newly designed cars for the Wuppertal Suspension Railway
These new-look, three-part articulated railway cars are 24 m long and 2.20 m wide and weigh slightly over 25 t. The lightweight body structure is made from hollow aluminium continuous casting sections, while the front and rear cabins are made from GFC. The drive systems are highly efficient and in combination with the new train control system will make it possible to operate trains at more frequent intervals in the future. The project placed great emphasis on minimising the environmental impact. On this new train a regenerative braking system feeds electricity back into the grid. The vehicles also feature modern passenger information systems and ventilation for optimum passenger comfort. Drivers can enjoy a state-of-the art workplace along with air-conditioning. At InnoTrans at the pavilion of Vossloh Kiepe on the Outdoor Display site some of the components of the new Wuppertal Suspension Railway will be making their first appearance on the world stage.
Vossloh Locomotives: High traction and innovative engine management
According to the exhibitor, with a nominal engine power of 1,800 kW, the DE 18 locomotive from Vossloh Locomotives boasts the highest traction of any centre-cab locomotive. Thanks to an innovative software it is possible to restrict power output to 1,500 kW. The result is fuel savings of around 5 per cent and due to the reduced engine load major maintenance intervals are now extended by up to 25 per cent. Moreover, the locomotive can operate at 50 % of IIIB emissions while still delivering 1,100 kW. Stage IIIB/2 engines that run without urea additives represent an excellent solution when they are operating in sensitive areas such as tunnels or stations. Flexible maintenance schedules that factor in service hours and the load profiles of key components can be directly taken over into the maintenance plan via remote data transmission. At InnoTrans the innovative engine management of the DE 18 will be exhibited for the first time.
Weidmüller Interface: Connection systems for use with high power in transport technology
The "RockStar® HighPower" end wall plug-in connectors from Weidmüller provide a compact system of high power connectors for use in rail vehicles, and are designed with a maximum rating of 550 A and 1,500 V. They have been developed specifically for transport applications in accordance with DIN EN 61373 CAT 1b, spring-mounted car bodies, and meet an extensive range of specifications. In addition to providing flexible plug-in capabilities with small dimensions, they offer high performance as well as being easy to use and quick to install. The "RockStar® HighPower" system of modular connectors has been developed specifically for transport applications in compliance with DIN EN 61373 CAT 2, bogies. Although designed for a maximum rating of 550 A and 4,000 V. these units are nevertheless very compact. They comprise single-component crimp contacts, insulating shells, stainless steel insert frames and a size 8 die-cast, multi-part aluminium housing.
Westermo Data Communications: Permanent and interference-free Wi-Fi aboard trains
With the introduction of the new RT-300 Wi-Fi series Westermo aims to set new standards in quality and reliability for wireless communications aboard trains. This system enables wireless on-board communications and reliable Wi-Fi network access for "train to ground" communications. Unlike competitors’ products the RT-300 series contains no modules, instead a Wi-Fi chip integrated directly on the main board. As well as making these devices more robust, it also ensures reliable communications with other wireless systems, unmatched input sensitivity and stable performance in the event of rain or fog. The series operates within temperatures ranging from -40 to 70 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the RT-300 series uses ETSI-compliant dynamic frequency selection, a feature that further ensures stable communications. According to Westermo the maximum net data transfer rate is 380 Mbps.
Windhoff Bahn- und Anlagentechnik: Lighter servicing and maintenance vehicle
The Norwegian rail network agency Jernbaneverket has placed an order with Windhoff Bahn- und Anlagentechnik GmbH to supply 21 twin axle maintenance vehicles for use with track work and traction power supplies. The multi-purpose vehicles will be deployed throughout the year. This light maintenance and service vehicle completes the range of Windhoff MPV® Multi Purpose Vehicles. For track operations at speeds of up to 100 km/h the engine output of 500 kW is transferred hydrodynamically, with a hydrostatic drive being used for works journeys. A special loading crane for working on the track superstructure and overhead power lines is installed at the back of the vehicle. The provision of a work cage means that the vehicles can be deployed throughout the year to deal with any faults occurring on overhead power lines. The Windhoff MPV is making its international debut at InnoTrans 2016.
Wuxi Jinxin Group: Modular ceiling solution
The ’integrated air ducting & ceiling solution’, known by the abbreviation ICD, is making its world debut on the joint stand of the Spanish company Rolen Technologies & Products and Wuxi Jinxin Group from China in Hall 3.1 at InnoTrans 2016. This modular ceiling solution incorporates various functions and elements as well as the air supply in a single component. ICD helps manufacturers to reduce not only the number of parts but also the weight, cost and assembly time, and is the result of development work carried out by ROLEN Technologies & Products in collaboration with Wuxi Jinxin Group, which also assisted with the manufacturing. The ICD ceiling integrates all the ceiling elements with the air ducts for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. It also includes lighting, communication systems, ventilation grills and ventilation regulating systems together with the necessary wiring. One of its main advantages is the ease of access for maintenance.
ZAGRO Bahn- und Baumaschinen: Electric shunter for Ex areas and small spaces
The "E-MAXI L", an electric shunter which has already established itself and has a towing capacity of up to 300 tons on a zero-gradient straight track, is currently available as an EX-protected version conforming to 2G IIB T4. Two units have already been built and sold to the Moscow metro system. This vehicle is approximately 2,960 mm long and 1,950 mm wide. All the components conform to 2G IIB T4. They permit shunting in EX areas, for example in varnishing booths or petrochemical filling areas. The "E-MAXI M kurz" is an electric shunter featuring four-wheel drive and steering, a power output of 4 x 5 kW, and an 80 V battery with a capacity of 250 Ah. It is approximately 1,840 mm wide and 1,890 mm long, making it highly manoeuvrable for shunting in tight spaces. The E-MAXI M kurz, which features extremely short and compact dimensions, is ideally suited to transfer table work and can even remain there during shunting.
ZAUGG: 7,500 tons of snow per hour
"Zaugg ZRR 10000 M" is the name of the new snow plough locomotive which Trafikverket put into service in April. Capable of dispersing 7,500 tons of snow per hour, this locomotive operates on Malmbanan, the Swedish section of the iron ore rail network between Luleå and Narvik. After initial runs to receive its operating licence and before it was officially put into service this snow plough underwent 200 hours of testing. The rail vehicle was designed and manufactured by Zaugg AG Eggiwil in Switzerland. It is significantly more advanced as well as more reliable, easier and convenient to use than its predecessor. Machines of this kind, which according to the exhibitor are among the most powerful snow ploughs obtainable, are indispensable for keeping winter traffic moving on the world’s northernmost railway lines, where severe snowstorms can cause snowdrifts several metres high.
