Asia's New Trade Fair for Transport Technology
Governments across Asia are responding with ambitious infrastructure projects:
- China aims to increase its urbanization rate to nearly 70% within the next five years, up from 66.16% at the end of 2023, with continued investments in high-speed rail and smart city transit solutions.
- India has approved the 42.8 km Jaipur Metro Phase-2 with 36 stations, at an estimated cost of ₹12,260 crore, as part of a broader push to expand metro networks in major cities.
- Vietnam plans to expand Hanoi’s and Ho Chi Minh City’s metro networks to 580 km by 2035 and 949 km by 2045, aiming for urban rail to handle over 55% of public transport demand by 2060.
- Thailand is advancing high-speed rail connectivity, including the Bangkok–Nong Khai (608 km) and Bangkok–U-Tapao (220 km) lines, designed to link major urban and economic centres.
- Singapore is building the 50 km Cross Island Line, scheduled for completion by 2030, which will enhance east–west connectivity and link key growth corridors across the island.
- Philippines is constructing the Metro Manila Subway, a 33 km underground line with 17 stations, expected to serve 370,000 passengers daily when operational.
- Malaysia is implementing the 665 km East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), a $10.6 billion project connecting the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia by 2026. In parallel, the government is reviving the Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail and building the 29.5 km Mutiara Line in Penang and the 69.9 km Kuching Urban Transportation System in Sarawak, all aimed at boosting national and regional mobility.
These developments are part of a broader investment trend, with the Asia-Pacific region requiring an estimated $43 trillion in transport infrastructure, including roads, heavy rail, and high-speed rail between 2020 and 2035.
With a growing pipeline of smart, multimodal transport projects and increasing public-private collaboration, Asia presents unmatched opportunities for innovation and investment across the transport ecosystem. From national master plans to city-scale transit upgrades, Asia is setting the pace for the future of mobility.
